Dubai Holidays and Stopovers
Dubai can be a bit like marmite but it’s a place that has really grown on me over the years... I’ve stopped here multiple times, usually on the way to somewhere else, and it’s one of those destinations that works so well whether it’s a short stopover or as a holiday on it's own! Thinking about a Dubai holiday or stopover as part of a bigger trip? Let's go!
Why Choose Dubai?
Dubai is all about contrast! You’ve got:
- ultra-modern skyline and luxury hotels
- traditional souks and old Dubai
- beach clubs and city beaches
- desert landscapes just outside the city
It’s over the top at times, but it’s also a lot of fun!
Where to Stay in Dubai
Dubai does hotels very very well! I’ve stayed in a mix over the years, from more budget-friendly spots like Rove Downtown and JA Ocean View, to some of the bigger names like The Address and Shangri-La
But one of my favourite hotels in the world is Atlantis, The Palm - I’ve stayed there three times. The first time was on the way home from Thailand after getting engaged and have been back since with kids in tow!
The building and lobby make a serious first impression and Aquaventure Waterpark (included for guests) is the best I’ve ever been to! Plus they have some fab restaurants.
What to Do
There’s a lot more to Dubai than people expect. You’ve got:
- shopping, from huge malls to traditional souks
- desert experiences like dune bashing and desert camps
- beach clubs and pool days
- a really strong dining scene with every cuisine you can think of
- amazing museums and architecture
You can fill your days easily, or keep it more relaxed and focus on the hotel and pool.
Beyond Dubai If you’ve more time, it’s worth looking beyond the city.
- Abu Dhabi for culture and big sights
- Ras Al Khaimah for something a bit quieter
- Desert resorts for a completely different vibe
- Oman for a more off-the-beaten-track add-on
Where to Combine with Dubai
Dubai is one of the easiest places to build into a bigger itinerary. It works really well as a stopover:
- on the way to Asia - think Thailand, Bali, Sri Lanka or Vietnam
- paired with a Mauritius, Seychelles or Maldives honeymoon or holiday
- as part of a safari honeymoon or holiday in Africa
- travelling to Australia or New Zealand
Even a couple of nights here can break up a long journey nicely.
Planning Your Dubai Trip
Dubai is easy to get to, but how you plan it makes a difference if it's part of a bigger journey.
I can help with things like:
- choosing the right area and hotel
- deciding between beach, city or desert stays
- how long to stay (it doesn’t need to be long)
Dubai is a place that might surprise you!
