When to visit

South Africa is a brilliant year-round destination with fabulous festivities and events to immerse you in local life. May to October is the best time to visit, as this is when the weather is at its coolest, driest, and most comfortable.

Spring (September - November)

Spring in South Africa signals the bloom of wildflowers, particularly in the Western Cape, where the Cape Floral Region bursts into vibrant colour. This is also an excellent time for wildlife viewing, as animals become more active in the milder temperatures. Vineyards begin to thrive, and the weather is ideal for outdoor adventures.

Summer (December-February)

South Africa's summer is perfect for beach lovers. Head to the sparkling coastlines of Durban or the Garden Route for sunny intervals and warm waters. This period is also peak time for food and wine festivals, with Cape Town’s outdoor cafés and markets bustling with energy.

Autumn (March-May)

Cooler, drier autumn is one of the best times for safaris, as animals are easier to spot around waterholes. This season also coincides with South Africa’s grape harvest, making it an unbeatable experience for wine enthusiasts keen on sampling freshly produced vintages.

Winter (June - August)

Despite being winter, South Africa offers mild temperatures in many regions. This is prime time for whale watching along the coast, as southern right whales migrate to the shores. It’s also a quieter season, ideal for exploring Cape Town’s cultural landmarks and indulging in luxe spa experiences.

Must-do activities include the Apartheid Museum and Constitution Hill. Shopping up a storm at any of the many designer malls such as Sandton City, Nelson Mandela Square, Rosebank Mall and Soweto's Maponya Mall; and, as a fitting end to all the fun, a visit to one of many health and beauty spas, or a walk in one of the many parks.

Durban

Durban is South Africa’s self-styled 'playground', where year-round warm weather encourages visitors to make the most of the province’s outdoor lifestyle.

Also known as 'Surf City', Durban is renowned for its magnificent bathing and surfing beaches, which stretch along the city's beachfront from Durban harbour in the south to the upmarket suburb of Umhlanga in the north.

Cape Town

With its mild climate and strong connection to the outdoors, Cape Town invites visitors to spend their days moving easily between city life and nature. Beaches, coastal walks, food led neighbourhoods and a wide choice of accommodation create a relaxed but engaging setting for a stay, whether you are exploring for a few days or using the city as a base for the wider region.

It is a place where sightseeing, dining and time outdoors fit naturally into each day.

Port Elizabeth
