New York Holidays and City Breaks

Karen Pugh on 03 Jan 2026

New York New York - concrete jungle where dreams are made, and one that never gets old! I’ve been over half a dozen times, for my honeymoon, family trips and with friends, most recently in 2024, and every visit is different with so much to see and do! Thinking about a New York holiday? Let's go!

Why Choose New York?

New York needs no introduction but it delivers the most fun every time. You’ve got:

  • iconic sights you’ve seen your whole life
  • neighbourhoods that all feel completely different
  • some of the best food anywhere
  • museums and galleries you could spend days in

It’s busy, you'll walk the legs of yourself and that’s exactly why we love it!

When to Go

You can visit New York almost all year round but I always lean towards spring and autumn. The weather is much more comfortable for walking the city, which you’ll be doing a lot of, and it just feels like New York at its best.

Where to Stay

Where you base yourself makes a big difference. First time in New York: Midtown is hard to beat. close to the main sights surrounded by skyscrapers and that classic NYC feel easy access to Central Park and major museums

If you’ve been before, I'd go further downtown - Meatpacking District, Greenwich Village, Lower East Side or Brooklyn

New York has no shortage of good hotels and I've stayed at a few from budget to the latest trendy boutique hotels but my favourite stay was The Plaza - living my Home Alone dreams - a New York classic!

What to Do (Beyond the Obvious)

Of course you’ve got the big sights, but some of my favourite things are a bit more low-key. walking or cycling through Central Park, strolling the High Line down to the Meatpacking District, visiting the amazing museums - I love the Tenement Museum, MOMA and the MET, shopping in little boutiques downtown and ticking off the never-ending dining list.

On my last trip, we did SUMMIT One Vanderbilt, and in a world full of amazing skyscrapers - this is by far my favourite skyscraper experience - an absolute must with incredible iconic views and more.

Where to Combine with New York

New York works really well on its own of course, but also as part of a bigger trip. Some popular options:

Planning Your New York Trip

New York is easy to get to, but if it's your first time, planning makes a big difference. Things like:

  • choosing the right neighbourhood and hotel
  • balancing sightseeing with downtime
  • knowing what’s worth booking in advance

can really shape your experience.

New York is one of those cities people go back to again and again, and once you’ve been, you’ll understand why.

Whether it's a big birthday, a honeymoon or fun for all the family - I can help create a dream itinerary incorporating all the best New York has to offer!
