First Look: Norwegian Aqua – A New Wave of Cruising

One of the greatest joys of being a Cruise Specialist with Travel Counsellors is stepping aboard a brand-new ship and experiencing the innovation and excitement before it sets sail on its full commercial journey. In March 2025, I had the pleasure of joining a 4-day inaugural preview sailing of Norwegian Cruise Line’s newest vessel – Norwegian Aqua – and it truly exceeded all expectations.

From the moment I arrived at the port, Norwegian Aqua stood out with her vibrant, colourful hull art – a nod to the creativity that flows throughout the ship’s design. Modern yet playful, the ship’s layout strikes the perfect balance between stylish sophistication and the signature energy that NCL is known for.

As expected with a new launch, everything was in pristine condition, but what impressed me most was the clever use of space and the seamless flow between public areas. Staterooms were spacious and thoughtfully designed, with generous balconies and bathrooms – ideal for extended cruising comfort.

Public areas were equally well-designed. Whether relaxing around the Starbucks concession, exploring the expansive pool decks, or joining the lively crowds at showtime, there was always plenty of space. The choice of bars onboard is outstanding – from quiet, intimate settings to the buzzing energy of Syd Norman’s Pour House, with its fantastic live music. Across the board, the crew were exceptional – friendly, welcoming, and consistently professional.

Dining is a major highlight on Norwegian Aqua. While your package may determine dining access, I highly recommend visiting Indulge Food Hall – a contemporary food court concept with delicious global options in a fun, relaxed setting. For a more refined evening, Cagney’s Steakhouse and Los Lobos (serving elevated Mexican cuisine) stood out for quality and ambiance. Across all venues, the food was top-tier.

The Mandara Spa offers a serene retreat, it’s impressively spacious and well equipped for anyone wanting to stay active at sea.

Entertainment onboard was spectacular – true to NCL’s reputation for high-calibre performances. For thrill-seekers, the Aqua Slidecoaster and The Drop are must-tries – exciting yet accessible to all ages and energy levels. Prefer something calmer? Infinity Beach and Ocean Walk offer peaceful spaces to unwind and take in the ocean views.

For guests seeking an elevated experience, The Haven – NCL’s exclusive suite enclave – offers privacy, premium service, and added luxury touches.

In summary, Norwegian Aqua is a ship that delivers – on design, dining, entertainment, and service. Whether you are a seasoned cruiser or planning your first voyage, this ship promises something truly special.
