Dubai: Through The Ages!

Why I Now Love This City Even More

Ellen Warren on 10 Sept 2025

About my latest Dbait trip/

I’ve just returned from an educational “Dubai: Through The Ages” trip and, even though this was my second time in the city, I’ve come home with a completely new appreciation for the destination. Seeing Dubai through so many different lenses; kids, teens, adults and senior travellers,  really highlighted just how versatile and exciting it is. Dubai is not just about skyscrapers and shopping: it is genuinely brilliant for all ages and all types of travellers, from young families and honeymooners to solo explorers and multi‑generational groups.

During our stay we followed a carefully designed itinerary that showcased the city from every angle. We visited a huge variety of hotels, attractions and neighbourhoods, with exclusive site inspections and experiences that have given me the kind of first hand insight you simply cannot get from a brochure. I am now even better equipped to match my clients with the right area, the right hotel and the right style of Dubai holiday.

Burj Al Arab

Here is a glimpse into our “Dubai: Through The Ages” itinerary and what I took away from each day.

Day 1: Dubai for Kids – Waterparks, Wonder and Beachside Fun

We started with a “kid’s day” and it could not have been more perfect for families.

When we arrived in the early morning we went to Atlantis The Palm & Aquaventure an started with a lovely breakfast and got to see some rooms and suites. We went bowling and had a delicious lunch. Of course you can not skip the Aquaventure which is every child’s (and many adults’) dream: slides, lazy rivers, splash areas and endless water fun set against the backdrop of one of Dubai’s most iconic resorts. What stood out to me is how well organised and safe it feels, with plenty of lifeguards, family friendly areas and space to relax between the thrills.

Atlantis

For families, staying at or near Atlantis makes so much sense. You have worldclass waterpark access, beautiful beaches and great dining right on the doorstep. It is ideal for those who want the “resort bubble” with everything in one place.

After some great fun it was time to go to our hotel, the stunning Jumeirah Beach Hotel and our welcome was just perfection. We arrived in our rooms during sunset so the view on Burj Al Arab from my room with the sunsetting was spectacular. Cupcakes with Irish shamrocks and a printed group photo from us we took at the airport the night before, alongside the real Dubai chocolate and champagne was just incredible. It shows how Jumeirah hotels is all about making their guests feel special.

We ended the day at Jumeirah Beach Hotel, with an amazing dinner and spectacular views from their rooftop bar. The following day we had a site inspection and it’s another great option for families, with its prime beachfront location and views of the Burj Al Arab. Seeing it at night really highlighted how atmospheric these beachfront resorts can be: perfect for parents who want somewhere stylish to enjoy an evening, while still being family‑friendly and relaxed.

Day 2: Dubai for Teens & Young Adults – Futuristic, Fun and Full of Energy

Day two was all about older kids, teens and young adults, and it really showed a completely different side to Dubai.

AYA universe

After breakfast we headed out to AYA Universe is like stepping into a futuristic, immersive art experience: interactive spaces, lights, sound and technology all coming together to create something unique and very “Instagrammable”. It is perfect for teens who want something different to a traditional museum or attraction.

Dubai Skyline

Next, we experienced Dubai from the water on a yacht trip with a BBQ lunch. Cruising past the skyline, taking in the Palm and the marina from the sea, really brings home the scale and sparkle of the city. For groups of friends, families with older teens or even celebration trips, this kind of experience is a real highlight.

Private Yacht

We finished the day with the SLS Skypool, which offered amazing views and a chic, grown‑up vibe. This is exactly the type of spot that works so well for couples and groups who want to stay in a stylish, modern and vibrant hotel with a real “Dubai” feel.

Day 3: Dubai for Adults - Culture, Wellness & Desert Magic

Jumeirah

Our “adults’ day” blended culture, relaxation and adventure beautifully.
Jumeirah Madinat, feels like a modern Arabian town with its waterways, souk‑style walkways and excellent restaurants and bars. It is romantic and atmospheric, and I can see why it is so popular with couples and adults looking for a resort with character as well as luxury. The Jumeirah resorts are just a world on it’s own, with 23 different dining options, beautiful facilities makes it a wonderful place to stay. We also experienced a sound healing session in their spa, which was a lovely reminder that Dubai is not all about high energy. There is a growing wellness side to the city, with spas, yoga, treatments and holistic experiences that make it ideal for a restorative break too.

Vintage jeeps

The day ended with a desert safari, which remains one of the must‑do experiences. Dune driving, sunset photos, desert camps, local food and entertainment, it is that classic “Arabian Nights” feeling. There is something really special about leaving the city behind and finding yourself surrounded by golden dunes and stars. There are a lot of different desert tours that can be booked, ours was top class, private jeep transfers from our hotel and back, but the best part was the open Vintage landrovers in vibrant colours, so cool!

DinnerDay 4: Dubai for 65+ – Heritage, Culture & Gentle Exploration

We wandered through the traditional souks and crossed the creek by abra, the small wooden boats locals have used for generations. This part of Dubai feels very different from the skyscrapers and shopping malls, and it adds so much depth to a holiday here. It is a wonderful way to connect with the city’s history and everyday life. We enjoyed a really fun food tour in the souks, we tasted, smelled and experienced the real Dubai. Our guide was amazing and made it a really fun morning, a place you definitely must visit because it’s authentic and so different from what we know and always see from Dubai.

Old Dubai

Museum of the futureThe Museum of the Future is one of the most striking buildings I have ever seen, and the inside is just as impressive. It is modern, imaginative and thought‑provoking, and works well for curious travellers of all ages. One of the best Museums I have ever visited, it’s very popular and for a long time sold out in advance, so my tip is to book your tickets well in advance to avoid disappointment.

Museum

In the evening, we enjoyed a dinner cruise along Dubai Creek. Calm waters, city lights, good food and a relaxed atmosphere: it is easy, accessible and ideal for those who like to see the city without too much walking. It was boutique style and the food was amazing. Seeing Dubai by night from the water is very special

Our final “bonus” day took us to one of Dubai’s most iconic experiences: Burj Khalifa At The Top.

Burj Khalifa

Even if you have seen countless photos, nothing quite prepares you for the views from the observation deck. Looking down over the fountains, the Dubai Mall and the vastness of the city and desert beyond is a real pinch‑me moment and a fitting finale to any Dubai itinerary.

Sweets

Having returned for a second time, and with this educational trip giving me such a wide range of experiences, I can confidently say that Dubai is:

  • Fantastic for families with children of any age
  • Fun and stylish for teens, young adults and groups
  • Luxurious and romantic for couples
  • Comfortable, accessible and fascinating for senior travellers

What really stands out is how safe, clean, organised and diverse it is as a destination. You can have a relaxing beach holiday, a shopping and dining break, a cultural city stay, an active desert adventure, or a mix of everything in one trip.

Villas
