My Music City Adventure
Nashville, Tennessee, the beating heart of America’s music scene and a city that has been on my radar for a long time. On my recent trip, I discovered why it’s one of the most talked-about destinations in the Southern States. With an afternoon departure from Dublin (no red-eye airport chaos!), an 8-hour direct flight lands you right into Nashville in the evening – perfect timing to check into your hotel, freshen up, and hit the world-famous Broadway Honky Tonks. Trust me, there’s nothing quite like your first night in Music City – neon lights, buzzing atmosphere, and incredible live music spilling out of every doorway.
Easy to Explore Nashville’s city centre is compact, clean, and easy to navigate. It also feels safe, making it ideal for girlie getaways, couples’ breaks, or a long weekend with friends. For families with young kids, it’s not the most child-oriented destination – but for music lovers and culture seekers, it ticks every box.
Music Everywhere Live music starts early here – from 11am daily, you can wander venue to venue and hear an incredible mix of artists. Do you need to be a die-hard Country & Western fan? Not at all. If you’re up for the craic, you’ll love it – though of course, the city’s Country roots shine through in every corner, and fans will be in heaven.
Nashville Must-Do’s If you’re planning a trip, here are my top recommendations:
Country Music Hall of Fame & Museum – a treasure trove of music history.
Studio B Tour – where Elvis recorded hits like Are You Lonesome Tonight.
Ryman Auditorium – the original Grand Ole Opry.
National Museum of African American Music – an inspiring and moving experience.
Johnny Cash Museum – for a deep dive into the Man in Black.
A night at the Grand Ole Opry – a once-in-a-lifetime live show.
Yes, it may sound like “a lot of museums” – but each is unique and genuinely fascinating. You’ll come away with a new appreciation for the history behind the music.
Shopping & Strolling ~ For retail therapy, you have got good options:
Opry Mills Mall – a huge outlet-style shopping haven. The Mall at Green Hills (close to the Bluebird Café) – a more boutique, high-end shopping experience.
The Bluebird Café – A Pinch Me Moment
If there’s one experience I’ll never forget, it’s visiting the Bluebird Café. Known as one of the most intimate music venues in the world, it seats just 70–80 people. Tickets are limited and sell out fast, but a handful of walk-up spots are available.
You never know who you’ll hear – performers are not always announced in advance – but the night we were there, we had the privilege of watching a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame legend on the keyboards Kevin McKendree & his very talented son, Yates and the multi-Grammy winner Reece Wynam , a keyboard maestro take the stage. It was pure magic.
Extend the Adventure: Add Memphis
If you’ve got a few extra days, consider adding Memphis to your itinerary. Just 3 hours away, it’s the chance to:
Visit Graceland, Elvis’s legendary home.
Explore the Blues bars on Beale Street.
Tour Sun Studios, the birthplace of Rock & Roll.
Final Thoughts Nashville is one of those destinations that grabs hold of you with its energy, charm, and soul. Whether you’re a music fan, a culture lover, or simply in search of a fun-filled city break with great food, atmosphere, and live entertainment, it won’t disappoint.
