Antigua & Barbuda

October 2010 was my first visit to the amazing island of Antigua.

I stayed 1 night at the Grand Pineapple beach and then 4 nights at Sandals Antigua resort & Spa.

The trip was a prize winners trip with Travel Counsellors. We flew British Airways from London Gatwick direct and the flight time was just over 9 hours. The Grand Pineapple beach is a 3 star plus hotel and an all inclusive property. This was not one of my favourite hotels but this is more for the budget minded. The accommodation was all low level bungalows which were nice and the hotel is directly on the beach. On a plus side the beach is amazing, very spacious so it was nice to stay here and spend a day on this beach.

The choice of entertainment is good with many different excursions of the island you can chose from. The food was good which was buffet style and drinks and cocktails are also included.

We then stayed 4 nights at Sandals resort which is an adults only property. The hotel is huge and is amazing. Many different room categories to choose from located in various different parts of the resort which is also located on a stunning white sandy beach.

The hotel has a very high level of standards and is one of the best Sandals resorts you can stay at, in the Caribbean. The hotel offers A La Carte restaurants, and premium branded drinks in all the bars.

You can take many different excursions around the island from the hotel. One of the excursions we took was a catamaran to the island of Barbuda. It was a day trip to this small island which took around 2 hours in each direction. Once on the island we had a bbq lunch on the beach. A fantastic day and a must visit.

Another great excursions was Shirley Heights where we could see stunning views of the coastline and have drinks and a bbq meal included with various different entertainment.

Overall I would definitely go back to this amazing hotel and I recommend to anyone looking to go for either a holiday or whether you are going on honeymoon.
