The Best of Northern Italy

13 nights from €3,550 per person

Three of northern Italy's finest destinations in one trip, connected by a self-drive through some of the most dramatic scenery in Europe. Lake Garda to the Dolomites to Venice, with eleven days of car hire included and the flexibility to explore at your own pace.

Highlights

  • Lake Garda, Italy's largest lake, set between the Alps and the northern Italian plains with historic lakeside towns, olive groves and clear mountain water
  • Val Gardena in the heart of the Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage mountain landscape of dramatic rocky peaks, alpine meadows and traditional Ladin villages
  • Cortina d'Ampezzo, one of the most celebrated alpine towns in the Dolomites, with a pedestrianised centre and some of the most photographed mountain scenery in Italy
  • Venice to close the trip, arriving by private water transfer directly to the hotel on the Grand Canal in the Dorsoduro district

Lake Garda

Six nights on the western shore of Lake Garda in wonderful B&B. Lake Garda is the largest lake in Italy, stretching 50 kilometres from the alpine foothills in the north to the warmer plains of the south. The western shore is lined with historic towns, olive groves and citrus trees, with the water calm enough for swimming throughout August.

The Dolomites: Val Gardena

Three nights in Selva di Val Gardena on a bed and breakfast basis. Val Gardena sits at the heart of one of the most scenic valleys in the Dolomites, with the Sassolungo and Sella mountain groups rising steeply on either side. The area has an extensive network of hiking trails and cable cars, with the high altitude passes and panoramic roads all within easy reach by car.

The Dolomites: Cortina d'Ampezzo

Two nights in Cortina d'Ampezzo on a bed and breakfast basis. Cortina is the most well known resort town in the Italian Dolomites, set in a wide sunny valley surrounded by some of the most photographed peaks in the range. The town has a strong alpine character, with a pedestrianised centre, independent shops and restaurants and easy access to the surrounding mountain roads.

Venice

Two nights at the Sina Centurion Palace on the Grand Canal, arriving by private water transfer from the car drop off point at Venice Marco Polo Airport. The hotel sits in the Dorsoduro district, one of the quieter and more residential parts of the city. Venice in late August is busy but the early mornings and evenings are still worth having, and two nights is enough to cover the main sights and find your own corners of the city.
