Milan
Milan opens the trip with grand architecture, neighbourhood cafés and a food scene that reaches far beyond the city’s fashion reputation. The Bernina Railway Journey
From Milan, the route heads north to Tirano before climbing into the Swiss Alps towards Chur. This is the journey at the heart of the trip, crossing dramatic mountain landscapes on a railway celebrated for its engineering and scenery. The route passes over bridges and through tunnels, with views of wild gorges, glaciers and the Bernina Pass before continuing through the Graubünden region. The official Bernina Express route between Tirano and Chur crosses 196 bridges and 55 tunnels, including the curved Landwasser Viaduct.

Chur and Zurich
An overnight stay in Chur breaks up the railway journey and gives you time in a compact Alpine city with an old town of narrow lanes and historic buildings. From there, continue to Zurich for two nights, where the River Limmat, lakefront and old town sit alongside elegant shopping streets and a celebrated chocolate scene. The planned local chocolate tour adds tastings and insight into the city’s confectionery traditions.
