Dubrovnik Dubrovnik sits on the southern Dalmatian coast, enclosed by medieval walls that drop almost directly into the sea. The Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the best-preserved walled cities in Europe. The main street, the Stradun, runs the full length of the Old Town and is lined with restaurants, cafés and shops. September is one of the best months to be here: the water is still warm, the light is softer and the city is noticeably quieter than in July and August.
The Islands The Dalmatian coast is defined by its islands, and Dubrovnik is one of the best places on the coast to reach them. The three-island boat tour covers a full day out on the water, with stops at three of the islands closest to the city. Lunch is included on board, and there is time to swim at each stop. The Elaphiti Islands, the group directly northwest of Dubrovnik, are the most common destination for day trips of this kind, with three inhabited islands sitting close enough together to cover in a single day.
Mount Srđ The cable car up to Mount Srđ runs from just outside the Old Town walls and takes about four minutes to reach the summit. At the top, the views stretch over the entire Old Town, the city walls, the island of Lokrum directly below and the open Adriatic beyond it. The guided tour on the first morning includes the cable car ride as part of the three-hour itinerary, so you get the high ground and the city walls covered in a single morning.
