Lake Garda, Venice and Verona

Lake Garda

Riva del Garda sits at the northern end of Lake Garda, where the lake narrows between steep mountain slopes. It is a great place to settle into for the week, with boats along the waterfront, cafés around the old town and plenty of places to stop for lunch overlooking the water. Your free day gives you the chance to come back to anywhere that caught your eye earlier in the trip or simply spend more time around the lake.

The Dolomites

The scenery changes completely as you head north into the Dolomites. The road climbs through valleys, pine forests and villages where the architecture feels closer to Austria than southern Italy. Keep an eye out for chamois, ibex and golden eagles along the way, and if the cable cars are running, head higher for views across the mountain ranges.

Venice

Venice brings a completely different day into the itinerary. You can follow the Classic route through the area around St Mark’s Square, or choose the Undiscovered option for places such as Santa Maria della Pietà and Campo Santi Giovanni e Paolo. Whichever you choose, there is time to keep exploring afterwards, whether that means crossing smaller canals, stopping for cicchetti or finding somewhere away from the busiest streets for lunch.

Verona

Finish the touring with Verona, where Roman history, medieval streets and Renaissance squares all sit within an easy-to-walk centre. After the guided part of the day, use your free time to wander around Piazza delle Erbe, stop at a pavement café or browse the shops before returning to Lake Garda.
