From Safari to Zanzibar: A South Africa Honeymoon
20 nights from €6,100 per person
Highlights
Begin with four nights in Cape Town, where Table Mountain, the Atlantic coastline and the V&A Waterfront give you plenty to fill the first few days.
Spend two nights in Franschhoek, surrounded by vineyards and mountains, with wine estates and long lunches at the heart of the stay.
Follow South Africa east through Oudtshoorn and the Garden Route, swapping wine country for dramatic inland scenery, forests and coastline.
Spend three nights on safari in the Eastern Cape, heading out in search of elephants, lions, rhino, buffalo, leopard and other African wildlife.
Finish with seven All Inclusive nights in Zanzibar, staying in an Ocean View Junior Suite designed for honeymoon couples.
Best for honeymooners who want food, scenery and wildlife before slowing things down on a tropical beach.
Cape Town
Cape Town gives you plenty to get excited about from the start. Take the cable car up Table Mountain for views across the city, follow the coast towards Cape Point, or spend an afternoon around the V&A Waterfront before heading to Camps Bay for dinner with the Atlantic in front of you. It is the kind of city where you can fill the day without having to over-plan it.
The Cape Winelands and Garden Route
From the city, head into Franschhoek, a small town in the Cape Winelands surrounded by mountains and some of South Africa’s best-known vineyards. Spend the day tasting at different estates, stop somewhere for a long lunch overlooking the vines and use the Wine Tram if you want to visit several wineries without worrying about the driving.
The journey then continues through Oudtshoorn, in the Klein Karoo, an inland region known for its open landscapes, ostrich farms and the Cango Caves, a network of huge underground limestone chambers. From there, move back towards the coast and the Garden Route, where Knysna and Plettenberg Bay bring beaches, forests, lagoons and coastal walks into the trip.
Safari in the Eastern Cape
Three nights on safari give the honeymoon a completely different feel. Head out with a ranger in the early morning when the reserve is waking up, looking for elephants, giraffes, rhino and big cats, then return for breakfast and time around the lodge before heading out again later in the day.
There is something very different about sharing those first sightings together, whether it is an elephant crossing the track or a lion appearing in the grass. It is the part of the journey that gives you stories to bring home, rather than simply another beautiful hotel stay.
Zanzibar
After South Africa, fly to Zanzibar, an island off the coast of Tanzania known for white-sand beaches, warm Indian Ocean water and a mix of African, Arab and Indian influences. Your final week is spent on the east coast at Muyuni Beach, where the days can finally become much simpler.
Wake up to an ocean view, spend the morning swimming or by the beach and settle into the All Inclusive side of the honeymoon without needing to think about where to go next. If you do want to explore, look at a day in Stone Town for its narrow historic streets and markets, a spice farm visit, or a boat trip out on the water before returning to the resort for the evening.
