Argentina with the Family: Cities, Mountains and Waterfalls

12 nights from €5,520 per person

Take the family from the streets of Buenos Aires into Argentina’s colourful north-west before finishing beside one of the world’s great waterfalls. Over 12 nights, this journey mixes city time with mountain landscapes, local food and two full days at Iguazú Falls.

Highlights

  • Get to know Buenos Aires on a private family tour, with a mate experience and time inside Recoleta Cemetery.
  • Drive from Salta towards Cafayate through the red-rock scenery of the Quebrada de las Conchas, with an empanada tasting along the way.
  • Spend a night in Purmamarca beneath the Hill of Seven Colours, where bands of red, yellow and green run across the mountainside.
  • Travel through Argentina’s high-altitude north-west on the Safari to the Clouds and Humahuaca experience.
  • Explore Iguazú from the Argentine side, where trails and walkways bring you close to different sections of the falls.
  • Cross into Brazil the following day for the wider view back across the waterfalls and surrounding rainforest.

Buenos Aires

Start in Buenos Aires, where the first few days are about getting to know Argentina rather than rushing straight through the capital. Palermo is known for street art, cafés and green spaces, while Recoleta brings grand architecture and one of the city’s most famous cemeteries. The included mate experience also introduces the herbal drink that Argentinians share at home, in parks and with friends.

Salta and Cafayate

From Buenos Aires, fly north to Salta and a completely different landscape. The road towards Cafayate runs through the Quebrada de las Conchas, where red sandstone has been shaped into huge natural formations including the Amphitheatre. Cafayate is also known for Torrontés wine, while the included empanada tasting gives the family a taste of one of Salta’s best-known local dishes.

Purmamarca and Argentina’s North-West

Continue into Jujuy for a night in Purmamarca, a small village at the foot of the Hill of Seven Colours. Walk the Paseo de los Colorados behind the mountain, browse the local craft stalls and see how dramatically the scenery has changed from Buenos Aires just a few days earlier. The wider Humahuaca region is known for mountains striped in ochre, red and green, giving this section of the trip a completely different feel from the capital.

Iguazú Falls

The journey finishes in the rainforest at Iguazú, with a full day on each side of the border. On the Argentine side, walkways take you through the national park and towards different viewpoints over the falls. Crossing into Brazil the following day gives you the broader panorama back across the water, so the family sees the same natural wonder from two very different perspectives.
