A Weekend in Mallorca
I’ve just returned from a long weekend in Mallorca, splitting my time between Palma and Port de Sóller, with scenic train rides, mountain villages and a magical evening swim in Cala Deià. With easy flights from Ireland, fantastic food and relaxed Mediterranean charm, it’s a perfect short escape that blends culture, coastline and laid‑back luxury.
I recently returned from a wonderful long weekend in Mallorca, flying from Shannon on Thursday morning and returning from Palma on Monday evening.
My trip began with one night in Palma, where I enjoyed exploring the city's charming streets, browsing the shops, and sampling some excellent local cuisine. A leisurely stroll took me past some of Palma's most famous landmarks, including the impressive cathedral and the picturesque marina.
The following day, I took the scenic train journey to Sóller before continuing by tram to Port de Sóller, where I spent three relaxing nights. With its beautiful waterfront, mountain backdrop, and laid-back atmosphere, it was the perfect place to unwind.
During my stay, I hired a car and explored some of Mallorca's most stunning locations, including Valldemossa and Deià. One of the highlights was an evening swim in Cala Deià, a beautiful cove with crystal-clear waters. The weather was ideal, with temperatures in the low 20s, making it perfect for both swimming and walking.
The food throughout the trip was exceptional, from traditional tapas to refreshing cocktails enjoyed overlooking the sea. Combined with spectacular scenery, warm sunshine, and a relaxed Mediterranean atmosphere, Mallorca proved to be the perfect destination for a short getaway.
If you're looking for a destination that combines culture, stunning landscapes, fantastic food, and easy access from Ireland, Mallorca is an excellent choice.
