Australia 2027
The trip of a lifetime - Australia, Autumn 2027
In Ireland, rugby is part of the fabric for many families, and that is certainly true in my house. And like a lot of Irish people I also have friends and family out in Australia.
That is why the Autumn 2027 feels like such a special opportunity: it is not just about the matches, it is a chance to visit loved ones and see more of this incredible country in one carefully planned trip.
Each of the cities of Australia offers a completely unique slice of the vast continent.

Sydney: familiar favourites and harbour magic
I absolutely loved this city. The first glimpse of the harbour, the sparkle of the water, the mix of iconic sights and easy beach life: it really does live up to the dream.
Sydney is a brilliant place to start the adventure. You have days by the water, coastal walks and neighbourhoods to explore, and for many people it is also where family and friends are based. It is a natural hub, and it is very easy to settle in here after the long flight before moving on.
Perth: the new frontier on many Irish wish‑lists
Perth is high on my own list for my next Australian trip. It has that “far‑flung” feel even by Australian standards, but with gorgeous beaches, a relaxed lifestyle and easy access to places like Fremantle, Rottnest Island and nearby wine regions.
Perth gives you the chance to experience Australia’s west coast, which is still under the radar for many Irish visitors. It is ideal if you like the idea of sunshine, outdoor living and a slightly slower pace between games, or if you have family over that way you have been meaning to visit for years.

Melbourne: sport, culture and a proper city buzz
By the time you reach Melbourne you will be well into the rhythm of the tournament. Melbourne is a fantastic city for anyone who loves sport, food, coffee and culture. Think hidden laneway bars, a serious café scene, galleries, markets and that particular buzz that only a big sporting city seems to create.
Docklands is very central, so it is easy to combine the match with time in the city, day trips along the coast or simply soaking up the atmosphere.
Autumn is a brilliant time to travel even if you are more about cafés, coastlines and culture than conversions and scrums.
