The Amatista is a small, purpose built riverboat designed for deep Amazon exploration. It sails the tributaries of the Amazon through Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, reaching parts of the rainforest that larger vessels cannot access. Pacaya Samiria is Peru's largest national park and one of the most biodiverse places on earth. Over six nights the itinerary covers birdwatching excursions in search of over 200 species, wildlife skiff trips spotting monkeys, sloths, caimans and river dolphins, night excursions watching the jungle after dark and jungle walks through the rainforest.
Piranha fishing on the Nahuapa River and a visit to the giant Victoria Regia water lilies on the banks of the Ucayali River are both included.

Before flying back to Lima the trip stops at the Amazonian Manatee Rescue Centre, dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating orphaned manatees that have been victims of poaching and returning them to the Amazon Basin. It is one of those stops that stays with you.
