Peru: Deep Amazon Expedition

Ten nights in Peru, beginning and ending in Lima, with six nights sailing deep into the Amazon on board the Amatista riverboat. You are inside Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, Peru's largest national park, with expert naturalists leading every excursion, a visit to a local indigenous family, a meeting with a practicing shaman and a stop at an Amazonian manatee rescue centre.

The Amatista Riverboat

The Amatista is a small, purpose built riverboat designed for deep Amazon exploration. It sails the tributaries of the Amazon through Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, reaching parts of the rainforest that larger vessels cannot access. All meals are included on board and expert naturalists lead every excursion, tailoring each day to the water levels and wildlife around you.

Pacaya Samiria National Reserve

Pacaya Samiria is Peru's largest national park and one of the most biodiverse places on earth. Over six nights the itinerary covers birdwatching excursions in search of over 200 species, wildlife skiff trips spotting monkeys, sloths, caimans and river dolphins, night excursions watching the jungle after dark and jungle walks through the rainforest.

Piranha fishing on the Nahuapa River and a visit to the giant Victoria Regia water lilies on the banks of the Ucayali River are both included.

Local Experiences

A visit to a local indigenous family gives you time in their home, sharing a meal and learning about their way of life. A separate visit to a practicing shaman in a river village offers a rare insight into Amazonian spiritual healing and the medicinal plants that have been used in the rainforest for centuries.
