Highlights of China

Day 1: Welcome to Beijing

Your adventure begins in Beijing, where you'll meet your G Adventures CEO (Chief Experience Officer) and your travel group. After settling into your accommodation, take some time to explore the local area at your own pace. Beijing's bustling energy is the perfect introduction to China's dynamic culture.

Day 2: Walking the Great Wall


The day kicks off with a trip to one of the world's most iconic landmarks, the Great Wall of China. As you hike along its ancient stone, you'll take in the breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside, marvelling at the sheer scale of this historic wonder. After returning to Beijing, spend your evening exploring or enjoying an optional group dinner.

Day 3: History in Beijing

Dive deeper into Beijing's imperial history with a guided tour of Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City. The beauty of these sites are a testament to China's long and fascinating past. The afternoon is yours to explore. Visit the tranquil Temple of Heaven or hunt for treasures at the Pearl Market before boarding the overnight train to Xi’an.

Day 4: Exploring Xi’an

Arriving in Xi’an, you’ll head out on an orientation walk to get your bearings in this vibrant city. The Muslim Quarter is a must-visit, with its bustling streets, colourful markets, and tempting aromas of local street food.

Day 5: The Terracotta Warriors

Today is all about one of China’s most incredible archaeological discoveries, the Terracotta Warriors. These life-sized statues, created to protect Emperor Qin Shi Huang in the afterlife, are as awe-inspiring as they are mysterious. For lunch, you’ll enjoy a delicious local meal with a family, giving you an authentic taste of Xi’an’s hospitality.

Day 6: Journey to Chengdu

The morning is yours to explore Xi’an further, perhaps with a bike ride along the ancient city walls. In the afternoon, you’ll board a high-speed train to Chengdu, the vibrant capital of Sichuan Province. Known for its laid-back vibe and spicy cuisine, Chengdu is the perfect next stop on your adventure.

Day 7: Pandas and Parks

No trip to Chengdu would be complete without a visit to the Giant Panda Breeding Base. Watching these gentle giants as they eat, play, and nap is a heartwarming experience. Spend the rest of the day exploring Chengdu’s teahouses or strolling through People’s Park, a local hub of daily life.

Day 8: Leshan Giant Buddha and Mount Emei

Today, you’ll visit the awe-inspiring Leshan Giant Buddha, a towering statue carved into a cliff overlooking the river. From Leshan, continue to Emei Shan (Mount Emei), one of China’s sacred Buddhist mountains, where ancient monasteries are surrounded by lush greenery.

Day 9: Serenity on Emei Shan

Spend a full day exploring Emei Shan. Wander through its ancient temples, soak in the mountain’s serene atmosphere, and enjoy breathtaking views. This is a day to reconnect with nature and immerse yourself in China’s spiritual heritage.

Day 10: Yangshuo

Travel south to Yangshuo, a town famed for its stunning karst landscapes. After arriving, you’ll settle into your accommodation and have the evening to explore. West Street, with its lively shops and cafes, is a great place to start.

Day 11: The Beauty of the Li River

A bamboo raft ride along the Li River is one of the highlights of this trip. As you glide down the river, you’ll be surrounded by dramatic limestone peaks and tranquil waters, a scene straight out of a Chinese painting. In the evening, enjoy a meal at the Jia Community Restaurant, a project that supports the local community.

Day 12: A Day of Exploration in Yangshuo

Yangshuo is yours to explore today. Whether you choose to hike, cycle through the countryside, or join a cooking class, there’s no shortage of things to do. For those seeking adventure, rock climbing or a hot-air balloon ride over the karst peaks are unforgettable options.

Day 14: The Charms of Shanghai

Discover Shanghai’s rich history and culture with a visit to the Shanghai Museum. Later, explore the tranquil Yu Garden and the surrounding Old Town. End your day with an optional night cruise along the Huangpu River, taking in the dazzling lights of the city.

Day 15: Farewell to China

Your journey concludes in Shanghai. After an incredible two weeks exploring China’s highlights, it’s time to head to Shanghai Pudong airport for your flight home.
