Highlights of Australia & New Zealand

This twenty eight night journey is designed for travellers who want to see Australia and New Zealand in depth, following a clear route that links cities, coastlines and standout natural landscapes. Beginning in tropical north Queensland, the trip moves through Australia’s east coast and iconic regions before crossing to New Zealand for alpine scenery, lakes and fjords, finishing in Christchurch.

Highlights of Australia & New Zealand

Tropical North Queensland

Arrive into Cairns and meet your group before travelling north to Cape Tribulation. Stop at Mossman Gorge for an Indigenous led walk through the rainforest, learning about the land and how it has been cared for over generations. Spend time in the Daintree Rainforest, with the option to visit the Great Barrier Reef or explore the surrounding trails and river crossings.

Travel south to Airlie Beach and set out for a full day in the Whitsundays. Cruise between islands, swim or snorkel in clear water, and walk up to the lookout above Whitehaven Beach for sweeping views across its white sand and bright blue bays.

Byron Bay and the East Coast

Fly south to Brisbane and transfer on to Byron Bay, where long beaches and coastal headlands set an easy pace from the start. A guided surf lesson is included, giving you a hands on introduction to the town’s surf culture, whether you’re standing up for the first time or just having a go. The rest of your time is free to explore local cafés, walk the coastal trails or spend the afternoon by the water.

Continue down the coast to Port Macquarie, where seaside views meet national park surrounds. It’s a quieter stretch of the journey, with time to enjoy the shoreline, spot wildlife and take in the natural scenery before travelling onward.

Blue Mountains and Sydney

Travel inland to the Blue Mountains, passing through small mountain towns before reaching a landscape of sandstone cliffs, deep valleys and eucalyptus forest. Walk out over Jamison Valley, stand beneath the Three Sisters and take a ride on the Scenic Railway, known as the steepest passenger railway in the world. From here, continue on to Sydney.

Arrive in Sydney and head out on an orientation walk to get your bearings around the harbour and city centre. Afterwards, the time is yours. Tour the Opera House, wander through the Royal Botanic Gardens, join a harbour cruise or make your way to the beach for a swim and a coastal walk.

New Zealand: Auckland to Rotorua

Fly across to Auckland and settle in by the harbour, with time to wander the waterfront, explore neighbourhoods like Ponsonby, or take the ferry out to Waiheke Island for vineyards and sea views. Then travel south to Rotorua, stopping at the Waitomo Glowworm Caves where you’ll drift quietly by boat beneath thousands of tiny lights shimmering overhead.

In Rotorua, spend time at a Māori village to learn about local traditions and history. Take part in a welcoming ceremony, enjoy a hangi meal cooked underground, and watch traditional music and dance that bring the stories of the region to life.

South Island Highlights: Glaciers, Lakes and Mountains

Fly to the South Island and cross the Southern Alps to the wild West Coast, staying close to Franz Josef Glacier. You’ll have time to explore at your own pace, whether that’s walking the surrounding trails or taking to the ice on an optional heli hike. Continue on to Kaikōura, pausing at a local winery along the way, before settling by the coast where you can look out for whales and seals or simply enjoy the sea air.

From here, travel through open alpine country to Aoraki Mount Cook National Park, home to New Zealand’s highest peak. Spend time out on the tracks, taking in the big skies and glacial valleys, before continuing to Tekapo Village and on to Queenstown.

Queenstown, Fiordland and Christchurch

In Queenstown, you’ll have time to shape the days around you. Go all in with jet boating or take the gondola for wide lake views, or keep it simple with a walk along the water and a good coffee. Your guide will help you get your bearings before you set off for Fiordland National Park.

Here, you’ll spend a full day cruising through the fjord, passing waterfalls that tumble from sheer rock faces and watching for seals and birdlife along the way.

The journey ends in Christchurch with a short walk to get to know the city and one final evening together, a relaxed way to round off a trip that’s taken you across some of New Zealand’s most memorable landscapes.
