Elemental and spiritual wellbeing culminate at Our Habitas Tulum

The philosophy behind this unique adults-only property on Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula is that to strengthen your relationships with those around you, you must first reconnect with yourself. To help you achieve this, it tucks you away between the jungle and the Caribbean Sea, where rooms are hidden amidst the vegetation (some with a private plunge pool), so you can focus on your body, mind, and spirit.

Elemental and spiritual wellbeing culminate at Our Habitas Tulum

This is no half-hearted retreat or a mere spa hotel: its treatments and rituals aim for nothing less than human connection, spiritual awakening, regeneration, and a peak state of mind. To achieve this, they work at changing the body’s chemistry and physiology. Signature treatments include the Colibrí Circuit Bath to open the heart, including exfoliation with natural ingredients, and followed by an ancestral Sobada Maya massage, which cleanses and works the body using local herbs and natural balms, cupping, and rebozo (a traditional cotton garment) to foster physical and spiritual alignment.

There is also an array of ‘Spiritual Awakenings’ to submit yourself to. Ancestral Earth Sounds, for instance, raises your vibration to a deeply meditative and healing state drawing on your inner ‘self-medicine’, while the Somatic Release Journey uses the ACB technique (working on a sequence of 32 points on your head) to remove mental blocks, negative thoughts, loops, and other patterns that don't serve you.

Perhaps most impressive of all is the ‘Elemental Blessing’, a ceremony designed to reveal ancient knowledge about cosmic order and the pattern of life and death to reconnect you with the elemental. Using the ‘medicine wheel’ teachings, it takes place on the resort’s private beach area, connecting you with the elements, detoxing and rejuvenating, and culminating in a cleansing swim in the Caribbean.

You can even take a two-night ‘Immersive Rhythms of the Jungle’ experience at the resort, combining adventures in nature with the ancestral sounds of Mayan culture. Indeed, music is an essential part of the experience here – one of the resorts’ six pillars’, alongside art and culture, wellness, adventure, learning, and food and drink.

Alongside the private activities you can book, you can take part in the complimentary daily programme based on these pillars, which include the likes of gentle flow yoga accompanied by harp music, and a Mayan honey and clay ritual consisting of the application of mineral-rich mud from the Yucatán Peninsula and local honey to the body while indulging in a sound bath of pre-Hispanic sounds.  Other unique offerings include an Afro-rhythms workout, conscious breathwork and sounds, and ashtanga-inspired vinyasa.

Tulum is also a great place to explore Mexico’s Mayan heritage, with important ruins of its own as well as being within day-trip distance of Chichén Itzá, one of the world’s biggest and best-preserved archaeological sites. There are natural wonders to immerse yourselves in too, including mangroves and cenotes.

Lastly, with dining also being one of the six pillars, you can expect something very special in the resort restaurant, toes-in-the-sand Moro, with low seating so you feel close to the earth, glass walls so the space blends with the lush vegetation, and dishes prepared using wood-fire techniques, combining local and Latin cuisines with touches of Middle Eastern inspiration to delicious effect.
