Boston and Salem: Halloween in New England

Boston

Boston is one of America's oldest cities. The Freedom Trail connects sixteen historic sites on foot, the waterfront is lined with seafood restaurants and the neighbourhoods are easy to explore at your own pace.Three nights at the DoubleTree by Hilton Boston Bayside gives the family a comfortable base with breakfast included. Faneuil Hall, the North End and Boston Common are all within easy reach of the hotel.

Boston After Dark

A city exploration game takes the family through Boston's streets on the first full day, following clues and uncovering stories across the city. In the evening a haunted ghost tour covers the darker side of Boston's history, visiting some of the city's oldest streets and sites after dark. It is a good mix of daytime sightseeing and something a bit different once the sun goes down.

Salem

Salem sits about half an hour north of Boston on the coast and is worth visiting at any time of year. It is a small, well preserved New England town with independent shops, good restaurants and a strong maritime history. In late October the atmosphere shifts noticeably, with the streets decorated and the town fully embracing the season. Two nights in a three bedroom apartment gives the family plenty of space to settle in.

Salem's Stories

A self guided audio walking tour covers the witch trial history and key landmarks at your own pace, starting on New Liberty Street. The Real Pirates Salem exhibit tells the story of piracy off the New England coast through artefacts and displays, including a recovered pirate ship. Between the two there is plenty to fill the days before the drive back to Boston for the flight home.
