Wow experience on board Legends of the seas

Family cruising on Legend of the Seas, my honest review of the world’s largest ship

Ocean view balcony life, my cosy sanctuary at sea

I have just arrived home from the launch of Legend of the Seas, the world’s largest cruise ship, and I am still taking it all in. As both a travel professional and a mum, I went on board asking two big questions, is this really a kids’ paradise? And will the grown ups get a proper holiday too? After experiencing the ocean view balcony cabins, West End style shows, adults only hideaways, brilliant kids’ clubs and the huge choice of dining, I can honestly say Legend of the Seas delivers on both. In this blog I share what it actually feels like to be on board, along with my honest thoughts on who this ship is best suited to, from young families to big multigenerational celebrations at sea.

Just back from an incredible cruise on Legend of the Seas, the world’s largest cruise ship, and I can honestly say it is a kids’ paradise as well as a fantastic escape for grown‑ups.

I stayed in an ocean‑view balcony cabin, which felt surprisingly spacious and cleverly laid out. There was plenty of storage and room to move around, so it never felt cramped. My favourite part was the balcony itself: in the evenings I loved sitting outside with a drink, watching the sea and the lights of the ship and just taking a quiet moment after busy days on board. Our balcony cabin on board LegendsOur Balcony cabin

The entertainment really stood out. I managed to see three of the main shows:

  • Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in the Royal Theater, a full Broadway‑style musical with brilliant staging and vocals.
  • Shockwave in the AquaTheater, a gravity‑defying high‑dive and aerial show with artistic swimmers, which was my absolute favourite. Watching the performers fly through the air with the open ocean as a backdrop was unforgettable.
  • Fusion in Absolute Zero, a dazzling ice‑skating show in the largest ice arena at sea.Charlie & The Chocolate factory

For thrill‑seekers, Crown’s Edge was a real talking point: a ropes‑course‑style attraction where you head out over the side of the ship and experience that heart‑stopping drop. It is definitely one for the brave and adds to the feeling that there is always something new and exciting to try.

Away from the big productions, two of my favourite evening spots were the piano bar and the sports bar. The piano bar had a lovely relaxed atmosphere, sing‑along classics and a friendly crowd, perfect for unwinding with a drink. The sports bar was ideal for anyone who does not want to miss a match: wall‑to‑wall screens showing different games and sports, so you are never far from the action.

For adults wanting a more chilled vibe in the daytime, I loved The Hideaway: an adults‑only infinity pool area with amazing wake views and a fun beach‑club feel. It is a great spot to escape the buzz, relax with a drink and soak in those sea views while the children are happily entertained elsewhere.Hideaway Adults Only area

There is also a fantastic spa and wellness area on board, along with a well‑equipped gym and running track. Whether you want a proper workout with sea views, a gentle run or walk around the track, or simply to book in a treatment and completely switch off for a few hours, it is very easy to keep up good habits or enjoy a bit of pampering at sea.

The dining was another real highlight. As well as the included venues, there are eight speciality restaurants on board, which give you so much variety and some lovely “treat” evenings:

  • Royal Railway – Legend Station: an immersive five‑course experience set inside a train carriage themed around the Silk Route.
  • Hollywoodland Supper Club: golden‑age‑of‑Hollywood décor combined with dinner and a live jazz‑style show.
  • Chop’s Grille: Royal Caribbean’s classic premium steakhouse.
  • Izumi Hibachi & Sushi: with lively teppanyaki tables and freshly prepared sushi.
  • Hooked Seafood: perfect for seafood lovers, with a raw bar and plenty of fresh dishes.
  • Giovanni’s Italian Kitchen & Wine Bar: hearty Italian favourites, great for a cosy, relaxed evening.
  • Chef’s Table: an intimate, hosted tasting menu experience for a real special occasion.
  • Celebration Table: a private dining space that works brilliantly for groups or celebrations.

You could easily spend a week just eating your way around the ship and still not try everything.

For families, this shipKids area is genuinely a kids’ paradise. The children’s facilities are outstanding and so thoughtfully designed. The Adventure Ocean youth programme caters for everyone from toddlers to teens, with age‑grouped clubs offering supervised, complimentary activities from the age of 3. Expect bright, colourful rooms filled with games, arts and crafts, guided group play and fun learning sessions that keep little ones entertained and happy.Central Park

There are also brilliant family neighbourhoods and interactive spaces on board:

  • The Surfside area is a dedicated open‑air family hub, home to Splashaway Bay, a vibrant aqua park packed with mini water slides, spray fountains and drench buckets.
  • Playscape is an underwater‑themed play space where younger children can climb, explore soft‑play features and whizz down slides.
  • Baby Bay is a gentler splash zone just for babies and toddlers still in swim nappies, so even the tiniest travellers are included.

With so many options, it is very easy for families to enjoy their time at sea, no matter the age of the children. Kids can make friends and burn off energy, while parents have the chance to relax a little, knowing the youngsters are well looked after.
