I had the privilege of attending an Ultra Luxury Showcase on board Uniworld’s beautiful S.S. Joie de Vivre: a three-day immersion in the very best of luxury river cruising with some of the world’s leading cruise lines.

Moored right in the heart of Paris, the ship made an instant impression. From the moment I stepped on board, it was clear this was no ordinary vessel. Every detail, from the elegant décor to the attentive crew, created a sense of understated luxury. It felt stylish and refined, yet wonderfully warm and welcoming.

The S.S. Joie de Vivre, whose name means “joy of living”, certainly lives up to its promise along the rivers of France. Designed for just 128 guests, it offers an intimate and indulgent experience. Think luxurious amenities, beautifully handcrafted furniture, exquisite antiques and, quite honestly, some of the most comfortable bedlinen I have ever slept in.

During the showcase we sailed from Paris and stopped in the charming town of Mantes-la-Jolie, where I had the chance to explore the historic Château de Malmaison. Wandering its elegant rooms and gardens was a real highlight and a lovely reminder of how river cruising can bring you right to the heart of France’s history and culture.

River cruising is all about slowing down and savouring the moment: watching the ever-changing scenery drift by, relaxing with the ship’s facilities, and enjoying life on board as much as the destinations themselves. There is something very special about gliding past iconic landmarks at a gentle pace, with nothing more pressing to do than simply take it all in.

One of my favourite memories was sailing past the Eiffel Tower at night, watching it lit up and sparkling from the water. It was a truly magical moment that reminded me exactly why I love what I do.

My three days on board were truly unforgettable, and S.S. Joie de Vivre more than lives up to its name.
