Kuramathi island resort Maldives

Lots of people know or have heard of Kuramathi Island in the Maldives and wonder if it is as good as they say, well the answer from my personal experience is yes, it is. It is a true island paradise and has a multitude to offer a couple on Honeymoon.

Kuramathi is an island of two styles. Laid back Traditional Maldivian on one side of the island and Chic and Modern on the other. In fact, the island offers you the best of both worlds. It’s almost like a two-centre honeymoon while never having to move.

The island is very lush with palm trees lining the island and its beaches and the interior is lush with palm trees and banyan trees, thirteen in total I believe, which is quite a lot for an island. The island is just 1.8km long and approx. 3m wide at its narrowest point. The only traffic found here are the golf carts that can take you from one end of the island to the other when you find yourself slipping into that lazy, laid-back island life.

One of the most amazing and untouched sights is the famous sand bank in Kuramathi. Winding out into the ocean and literally the tip of the island this sand bank is tidal, and spectacular. Whether you are there in the morning to see a multitude of blue shades in the ocean or back in the evening for the sunsets which are just breath taking. Why not grab a bottle of cava and two glasses from the bar (additional cost) and settle in for the sunset extravaganza. It’s certainly a special place and unique to Kuramathi. If you don’t like the sand don’t fret, the chic champagne loft is the perfect place to watch the sunset.

The food is excellent in Kuramathi. I would highly recommend upgrading to select all-inclusive which will give you an exceptional variety of restaurants and a fantastic choice of cuisines. Select all-inclusive gives you access to nine a la carte restaurants, seven bars and three buffet restaurants so you literally have a different restaurant to choose from each night of your stay. This is unique to Kuramathi and the Maldives. If you are a little reserved in what you like to eat, I would stick with the buffet options as you will always find something here. You still have the option to dine in an a la carte restaurant and you would receive a 20% discount. Just remember tax has to be paid too.

My personal favourite was the island BBQ sitting under large palm trees with the sea breeze blowing in as we looked out over the ocean, it was just bliss. Palm restaurant was gorgeous too and Siam Garden the Thai speciality and Tandoor Mahal the Indian speciality were also calling to me ,but as it was a short trip these will have to wait until next time.

There is such a wide variety of accommodation options on the island, everything from beach bungalows nestled in the palm trees to beach front villas with their own private pools or even private water villas sitting over the ocean. The wow factor is certainly here and there is an accommodation option to match every honeymoon budget. Personally, I loved the beach villa with private pool. Ocean views and beach and ocean access, win, win. Consider taking it a step further and splitting your trip by staying on each side of this beautiful island to experience it all. Stay in a beach villa on one side and move to a deluxe water villa on the other side. Not only do you have two different experiences without having to change island it can also help keep your budget in check too.

If you are nervous that there is not enough to do, I found the days flew in. There is great snorkelling of the tip of the island and you would certainly explore every day. Glass bottomed kayaks can be hired and you can explore, we saw turtles and sting rays from the kayaks or hire stand-up paddle boards or maybe you’d prefer windsurfing? There are local island excursions, sunset cruise, snorkelling safaris, diving excursion, big game fishing plus a semi-submersible, all recommended. Then in the evening you can explore another restaurant and check out the live band which are resident on the island for a great night out. There is lots to do. Not forgetting the beautiful spa.

With three swimming pools and endless beach front this is a tropical island paradise for sure and definitely worth considering for your honeymoon. The Maldives combines well with Istanbul, Abu Dhabi and Dubai for a city break. Sri Lanka for an adventure Honeymoon and Thailand and Malaysia are possible too. Turkish airlines offer very quick connections via Istanbul but consider a stopover it’s a city busting with history, sights and sounds and a nice alternative for any honeymoon. They also offer great vegan and vegetarian food options on board including Asian vegetarian which can all be prebooked. Great for those who know the struggle.

It was so valuable to experience this resort in person and having seen all the accommodation options first hand I will be able to guide you clearly.
