South Africa / Garden Route / Eastern Cape Safari – December.
I had the pleasure of going to South Africa on a familiarisation trip and spent time in Capetown, visited the winelands outside of Capetown.
Cape Town nick named "TheMother City “ is an amazing city set between Table mountain and the Atlantic ocean offering a lovely Mediterranean climate, rich in great history, popular tourist areas like the V & A waterfront, Boulders beach to see the penguins, Robin Island.
The food is just amazing and the wine is just to die for and the value is really good.
The best time to travel to South africa, Cape Town is during the warm dry summer months from December to February for great beach weather and a nice climate.
We got to experience and drive the garden route over a couple of days and stopped of for overnight stays in the lovely Hermanus famous for whale watching, Oudtshoorn famous for ostrich farms, Plettenberg bay which is a beautiful seaside town on the garden route popularly known for sweeping golden beaches, towering indigenous forests and beautiful vineyards and wine estates. We also visited the near by town of Knysna famed for its sandstone cliffs and amazing scenery.
We stayed 1 night in Port Elizabeth referred to as “PE” a major sea port and most populated city located on the eastern cape.
We finished of our trip by doing a 2 night Safari at Kariega Game reserve the ultimate in malaria free African safaris. We saw all the big five animals, Lions, Rhinos, elephant and buffalo but we did not see any leopards unfortunately. During our stay at Kariega game reserve we had the most amazing experience, this definitely was my high light doing two early morning game drives and two evening game drives lasting for 3 to 4 hours per game drive. The evening game drive in open 4 x 4 vehicles with a guide and spotter allowed us experience the big 5 and nocturnal activity as dusk fell. After we returned to our lodges we had the most amazing dinner and drinks and mingled with other guests. The morning game drive on our open 4 x 4 vehicles allowed us to catch the active wildlife in their natural environment as the sun rose. The morning game drive concluded with a stop for coffee and muffins in the bush before returning at 10am for a hearty breakfast.
I would highly recommend a trip to South africa to explore Cape Town and the winelands and Robben Island, drive the garden route if you wish and conclude your trip with an amazing 2 night safari on the eastern cape and if time permits fly to Durban on the coast of Kwazulu – Natal and relax for a few days on the beach at Umhlanga with pristine coastline making activities like snorkelling, diving, surfing and swimming in the warm Indian ocean.
Get in touch and I will be delighted to plan your next adventure to South africa.
