Sailing with Celebrity Millennium combines thoughtful design, warm service and panoramic sea views, with spaces that feel inviting after days spent exploring Japan’s cities and coastlines. The two storey Metropolitan Restaurant anchors the dining experience with seasonal menus and regional influences, while Oceanview Café offers relaxed international dishes throughout the day. The Rooftop Terrace creates an open air retreat above the water, the adults only Solarium provides a calm space to unwind, and The Spa offers treatments inspired by natural elements. Evenings bring live music, theatre shows, and quiet moments in the Sunset Bar as the coastline passes into night.
Your journey begins in Tokyo, a city where quiet gardens and historic shrines sit alongside bright streets, modern towers and lively neighbourhoods. You can move from the calm paths of a traditional temple to the energy of a busy shopping district in minutes, which is part of what makes the city so compelling. Older quarters offer a glimpse of Tokyo’s past, while the riverfront opens out to some of its best modern views. After two nights exploring at your own pace, you travel to the port to board your ship.
Osaka is one of Japan’s most distinctive cities, known for its outgoing character, atmospheric districts and exceptional food culture. Streets around Dotonbori glow with lanterns and neon after dark, while quieter corners reveal traditional restaurants and long established markets. Osaka Castle rises above the parkland at its centre, a symbol of the city’s role in Japan’s unification during the sixteenth century. With its historic districts, riverside views and lively energy, Osaka offers a vivid introduction to urban Japan.
Across the Korean Strait, Busan offers sweeping beaches, waterside promenades and hillside neighbourhoods. One of its cultural highlights is Beomeosa Temple, located on the slopes of Mount Geumjeong and known for its serene forest setting. Markets, cafés and coastal parks create a lively atmosphere, while Busan Tower in Yongdusan Park provides panoramic views across the city and harbour. It is a refreshing contrast within the wider Asian journey.
Nagasaki’s hillside streets look out across a natural harbour that has connected the city to global trade, culture and ideas for centuries. Chinese, Dutch and Portuguese influences appear in its architecture, gardens and cuisine, giving Nagasaki a blend found nowhere else in Japan. The city is also a place of reflection, with museums and memorials telling its important twentieth century story. Temples, viewpoints and waterfront districts add beauty and calm to a city with deep historical meaning.
Set on the edge of a calm bay, Kagoshima is dominated by the presence of Sakurajima, an active volcano whose peaks rise dramatically above the water. The landscape shapes the city’s character, from traditional gardens such as Sengan-en to hot spring traditions found throughout the region. Views of the volcano shift with the light, creating a powerful backdrop to daily life.
Shimizu is the gateway to Mount Fuji, Japan’s highest and most recognisable peak. On clear days the mountain rises above lakes, forests and the coastline in a near perfect volcanic cone. Fuji has been honoured in Japanese art, literature and tradition for centuries, and its symmetrical profile remains a symbol of the country. Whether viewed from the port, from higher ground or reflected in nearby lakes, Mount Fuji is one of the defining images of Japan and a highlight of this voyage.
