Sardinia, the stunning Italian island in the Mediterranean, is a haven of natural beauty and cultural wonders. In the heart of Sardinia's northwest coast lies the captivating town of Alghero, a gem that promises an unforgettable vacation. This August, my husband and I embarked on an incredible week-long adventure, staying at the Oasis Hotel, exploring Alghero, venturing to Bosa, and discovering the magnificent Neptune's Grotto. Join me as I take you through our enchanting journey in Sardinia.

Day 1: Arrival in Alghero We flew with Ryanair from Cork. As we landed in Alghero, the refreshing sea breeze welcomed us to this idyllic coastal town. Our stay at the Oasis Hotel, nestled amidst lush gardens and just a short walk from the beach, promised a week of tranquillity and relaxation. After settling into our comfortable room, we couldn't resist the temptation of the nearby beach and spent the evening unwinding on the sandy shores, basking in the golden sun.

Day 2: Exploring Alghero's Old Town The heart of Alghero lies in its enchanting Old Town. Enclosed within ancient walls, the cobblestone streets beckoned us to wander and soak in the historical charm. The vibrant Catalan architecture and colourful buildings offered a picturesque backdrop as we strolled through the alleys. We savoured traditional Sardinian cuisine at local restaurants, indulging in freshly caught seafood and flavourful pasta dishes.

Day 3: Neptune's Grotto Adventure An excursion to Neptune's Grotto was next on our itinerary. We hopped on a boat tour from Alghero's harbour to explore this breathtaking sea cave, a natural wonder carved by the waves over centuries. The boat ride was an experience in itself, with the stunning coastline unfolding before our eyes. Once inside the grotto, we marvelled at the impressive stalactites and stalagmites, creating a surreal underground world.

Day 4: Relaxation by the Pool A day of relaxation at the Oasis Hotel was well-deserved. The hotel's pool area provided the perfect spot to unwind, with lush greenery surrounding us and the shimmering water offering a refreshing escape from the summer heat. The kids had a blast splashing around, while we indulged in some quiet moments with a book and a poolside cocktail.

Day 5: Bosa's Delightful Charms A bus journey of approximately 1 ½ hours from Alghero brought us to the picturesque town of Bosa. The scenic journey took us through vineyards and olive groves, with the turquoise sea as our constant companion. Bosa welcomed us with its colourful houses lining the riverbank. We visited the Malaspina Castle perched on the hill, which offered panoramic views of the town and the surrounding countryside.

Day 6: Coastal Adventures Eager to explore more of the coastline, we embarked on a boat tour that took us to hidden coves and secluded beaches near Alghero. The crystal-clear waters beckoned us for a refreshing swim, and we relished the feeling of being surrounded by nature's wonders. The boat tour also included a delightful seafood lunch on board, where we savoured the flavours of the sea.

Day 7: Farewell to Alghero As our week in Alghero came to a close, we were filled with gratitude for the incredible experiences we had shared as a family. From the historic streets of Alghero to the mystical Neptune's Grotto and the beauty of Bosa, Sardinia had left an indelible mark on our hearts.

Our week in Alghero, with its delightful Old Town, coastal adventures, and awe-inspiring natural wonders, was an unforgettable journey into the heart of Sardinia's beauty. The Oasis Hotel provided a comfortable and peaceful haven for our retreat. As we bid farewell to this charming corner of Italy, we knew that the memories of our time in Alghero would stay with us forever, beckoning us to return and explore more of Sardinia's treasures in the future.
