My recent trip to Hanoi for the Travel Counsellors Gold Conference was my first time to Vietnam and it didn't disappoint. Hanoi is such a busy and buzzing city with over 5 million motorbikes and about 8 million people, it’s non-stop, but in the best possible way. Hanoi was just as busy and buzzing as I remembered. Vietnam has always been on my must-see list. This year, I finally made it—and the magic of Hanoi truly exceeded all expectations. From luxury comforts to thrilling discoveries, here’s a glimpse into my recent city break and why I believe Vietnam should be at the top of your travel wish list!

Stepping into the Sofitel Legend Metropole felt like travelling back in time—French colonial elegance, twinkling chandeliers, and tranquil courtyards. The hotel’s heritage is palpable at every turn, from the history-filled corridors to the lush poolside sanctuary. Impeccable service greeted us at every moment, turning our stay into something genuinely special.

The sites

One evening, we ventured out with a local guide on a street food adventure. The Old Quarter comes alive after dark—vendors bustling, steam rising from bubbling pots, lively laughter filling narrow alleyways. I tasted freshly grilled bun cha, delicate banh cuon, and finished with Hanoi’s legendary egg coffee. Each bite was a celebration of local flavours, and our guide’s stories added flavour to every dish.

If you ever want to see Hanoi like a local (but with a touch of adventure), I can’t recommend the vintage army jeep city tour enough. We zipped through the heart of Hanoi, weaving past lakefronts, hidden temples, and French-inspired architecture. The open-air ride made even the familiar sights feel brand need but I have to say the h8ighlight was Train street.  Definitely a crazy experience.

No trip is complete without a little indulgence. Hanoi’s boutiques offered gorgeous handcrafted keepsakes and silks—perfect for unique gifts. After a day on our feet, we treated ourselves to a soothing spa session. The serene atmosphere and expert therapists made it the ultimate reward before a night on the town.Street food

What made this trip unforgettable wasn’t just the stunning hotel or delicious food, but the seamless blend of style and authenticity. In Vietnam, world-class hospitality meets down-to-earth charm, from five-star stays to street corner snacks.
