Nashville, Music City!

Celine Rooney on 24 April 2023
Nashville had been on my wish list for forever, so when I was invited to go I was over the moon.

Getting There: Flying with British Airways We flew to Nashville with British Airways, one stop via London Heathrow. Terminal 5 was a dream, with an easy, stress‑free transfer between flights.

Onboard, we were in World Traveller Plus, British Airways’ Premium Economy cabin. I was genuinely impressed with the wider seats, extra legroom and the feel of having a separate, quieter cabin. The little extras made a big difference: amenity kit, decent pillow and blanket, tasty meals and a complimentary bar service that was excellent throughout. The crew were really friendly and the on‑demand entertainment helped the 9‑hour flight absolutely fly by.

First Impressions & Where We Stayed On arrival into Nashville, we cleared immigration in around 30 minutes and headed out just in time to see the sun set over the city skyline. A lovely welcome to Music City.

We stayed at the Hutton Hotel, just steps away from Nashville’s famous Music Row. It has such a lovely vibe: live music in the lobby, a relaxed atmosphere and genuinely friendly staff. Our room was a good size, very comfortable and had a fab bathroom (I do love a great bathroom!).

You’re talking about a 25‑minute walk to Broadway, which I really liked. It meant we could dive into the buzz of Broadway, then retreat back to somewhere a bit calmer to relax after a busy day or late night.

Music History Highlights All of the following were within easy reach of the hotel and are perfect for a short break.

RCA Studio B Within walking distance of the Hutton, we took a tour of RCA Studio B, where Elvis recorded over 200 of his songs. The original Steinway piano he played is still sitting in the studio. Honestly, I wasn’t expecting to enjoy this as much as I did, but it was really special. Our guide brought the stories to life and you could almost feel the magic that was created within those walls.

Country Music Hall of Fame Next up was the Country Music Hall of Fame in downtown Nashville. For country music fans, this is a must‑do. It has an incredible collection of historically important artefacts and you could easily spend hours wandering through the exhibitions. It is huge, so give yourself plenty of time.

Ryman Auditorium I was super excited about our tour of the Ryman Auditorium, especially as I was a big fan of the TV show “Nashville”. It felt very cool to stand in a place I’d seen so many times on screen and to learn about the legends who have performed there. Recent years have seen the likes of Bruce Springsteen, Mumford & Sons and Tom Petty on that stage, so it really is hallowed ground for live music lovers.

The Grand Ole Opry: A Bucket‑List Night Another venue on my wish list, and a real pinch‑me moment, was the Grand Ole Opry.

The Grand Ole Opry is a live performance showcase bringing together today’s country music stars, superstars and rising stars on one stage, every week in Music City. It is also the longest‑running radio broadcast in U.S. history on WSM Radio.

The show itself was brilliant, but we were spoiled with a little VIP experience too. Our tickets included access to the Circle Room, limited to around 100 guests, with complimentary drinks and nibbles. We also had a visit from an Opry performer which felt very personal and made the whole evening even more special.

A Stand‑Out Museum: Musicians Hall of Fame My favourite museum on our itinerary was the Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum.

This is the only museum in the world that honours the session musicians and players behind some of the greatest recordings of all time. There are so many stories you may never have heard before and I found it absolutely fascinating. There is also an interactive area where you can sing, play drums or guitar and basically bring out your inner rock star. Great fun and really memorable.

Belle Meade Historic Site & Winery We also visited the Belle Meade Historic Site & Winery, once home to English Derby winner Iroquois and renowned as one of the premier thoroughbred racing and breeding farms in the South. Belle Meade has always been a centre of hospitality and that tradition continues today.

In 2009 they opened Nashville’s only winery on site and now offer complimentary wine tastings after each tour. The blueberry dessert wine was fab and definitely worth trying.

Broadway & Nightlife: Music All Day Long In Nashville, nightlife doesn’t just start at night. Music spills out onto the streets of Broadway from around 11 a.m., with rooftop bars and honky‑tonks stacking live music across three levels.

It’s not all country either: there is something for every taste. So many talented musicians, singers and songwriters call Music City home, which means you can stumble across some incredible, intimate performances.

Two venues I would absolutely add to your itinerary are:

The Listening Room Café The Local Bar Both offer that more intimate, singer‑songwriter feel where you really get to hear the stories behind the songs.

Final Thoughts We packed a lot into our three‑night trip and still didn’t get to experience everything on my list, so I will definitely be back. Nashville is such a special place, full of energy, music and stories at every turn.

We really packed in a lot in our 3-night trip and still didn’t get to experience it all, so I will be back Nashville, such a special place… GO! If Nashville is calling your name and you’d like some help piecing it all together, I’d be delighted to arrange it for you and share more tips from my own trip.
