Malta & Gozo

There are so many areas to explore in Malta so it’s perfect for a couple who like to be busy on their honeymoon plus with great air connections a two or three centre European honeymoon is possible.

The three cities in particular which are gorgeous to explore and lovely to stay are Vittoriosa, Senglea and Cospicua. Valletta is on your doorstep too, just 20 mins away by boat. The dghajsa are a typical Maltese gondola shaped boat that are used for the journey between the 3 cities and Valletta for just €2 each way per person it’s a steal.

Explore the grand harbour and enjoy views of Valletta from the water and catch the cannons firing at 12 noon everyday bar Sunday.

Or explore the harbours of the 3 cities and Valletta on a longer cruise for €8. All very affordable.

Malta is a foodie’s paradise. The Maltese take their food seriously and it shows in every meal. Using local ingredients from broad beans to fresh fish and calamari, everything really is delicious and an experience. Add in the magnificent wine also home grown and both Malta and Gozo become a foodie honeymoon heaven.

Gozo is quieter but sleepy it is not. Explore the blue lagoon on Camino Island and dive in many of the dive sites, most offering shore dives of scuttled wrecks. They also cater for technical divers for the deeper explorations. Snorkelling is also good here in the Crystal-clear waters.

Visit caves, take a tuk tuk ride through the narrow streets, travel up to the Sanap Cliffs for dramatic vistas from the 80m high. Go sea kayaking or visit the salt pans, there are so many different options.

Gozo has 14 villages and 1 town but with 366 churches one for every day of the year including the leap year you are never short of a steeple or dome to enhance your photos.

All in all, it’s a lovely part of the world and I would recommend it as a first stop on a European Honeymoon Adventure. Malta offers great connections to many European honeymoon hotspots including Puglia, Sardinia, Sicily, Crete, The Amalfi coast, Lake Garda and Croatia. It’s perfect for a 2 or 3 Centre honeymoon.
