Travel north into the heart of Sri Lanka’s Cultural Triangle, where ancient temples and monuments tell the story of early Sinhalese civilisation. Explore the Dambulla Cave Temple, filled with statues and centuries-old murals, before continuing to Sigiriya. Climb the famous Lion Rock Fortress for unforgettable views across the forest canopy. You’ll also visit one of the island’s former capitals, Anuradhapura or Polonnaruwa, with its crumbling stone temples and carved Buddhas surrounded by tropical greenery.
Continue south to Kandy, the island’s cultural capital surrounded by forested hills. Visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, an important Buddhist site, and stroll through the Royal Botanical Gardens. In the evening, watch a cultural performance of traditional drumming and dance. Your accommodation overlooks the lake, providing a peaceful setting after a day of exploring.
