This route links ancient Inca sites, highland landscapes and vibrant South American cities before ending on Colombia’s Caribbean coast. Starting in Peru with the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu, the journey continues through Bogotá, Medellín and Guatapé, before finishing with beach time near Cartagena. It is varied, active and immersive, with enough structure to keep travel easy and enough flexibility to enjoy each place.
Arrive in Lima before flying inland to Cusco and the Sacred Valley, where your time is spent exploring some of Peru’s most important historic sites. Visit Moray and the Maras salt pans, walk through Inca ruins at Ollantaytambo and Pisac, and spend time with local communities in the Sacred Valley, including a visit to the Parque de la Papa.
A traditional pachamanca style dinner is included, giving you a taste of regional cooking and culture. The journey to Machu Picchu is made by scenic train, followed by a guided visit to the site itself.l
After Machu Picchu, settle into Cusco for time to explore the city at your own pace. Wander the main square, visit local markets or choose to explore nearby ruins. One evening includes a visit to the Cusco Planetarium, where you learn about the role of astronomy in Inca life before viewing the night sky through telescopes.
Fly to Colombia and begin in Bogotá, where a guided walk through La Candelaria introduces you to the city’s history, street art and architecture. A coffee tasting experience gives insight into one of Colombia’s most famous exports. In Medellín, explore neighbourhoods with a local guide, take part in an e bike tour, and visit Comuna 13 to understand how the city has changed over time. A hike and food focused experiences add variety to your days without packing the schedule.
Travel to Guatapé, known for its brightly painted buildings and lakeside setting. Climb El Peñol Rock for views across the reservoir and take part in an adventure day at Salto del Buey, choosing between a canopy cable flight or a via ferrata climb beside a waterfall. This part of the trip brings a more active edge, balanced by relaxed evenings in town.
Finish the journey on Colombia’s Caribbean coast. Spend time on the beaches of Barú, with a private boat trip to the Rosario Islands included for swimming and snorkelling. The final stop is Cartagena, where you explore the historic walled city with a local guide, walking cobbled streets lined with colourful colonial buildings before enjoying a farewell dinner.
