Salem, Massachusetts, USA
This infamous American town is where 26 people were tried and put to death for being witches. Take a guided tour of Salem’s most notorious spots, witness trial re-enactments, night parades and the witches circle. On the night of Halloween, the town lights up with an array of magic shows, witches balls, séances and fireworks guaranteed to make this a night to remember.
One of the most famous celebrations in the world, Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a three-day festival to honour the dead. Celebrations begin on October 31st and in Oaxaca, the streets are transformed into one huge street festival. Ostend kicks off its Halloween celebrations in early October. Large spiders wander the streets, sailing vessels are transformed into pirate ships and spooky, macabre decorations hang from street buildings. A costumed children’s procession on the 31st of October is followed a day later with a parade by lamp light, and concludes with a feverish ‘witch dance’ in Grote Markt’s Plaza.
