Your journey will begin in Porto where you will stay in the Carris Porto Ribeira hotel for one night before you depart from Vila Nova de Gaia on your seven-night Douro River cruise.

On your first afternoon, your cruise will meander down the Douro. You’ll visit the picturesque village of Lamego and the elaborately decorated baroque cathedral, the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Remedies. While in Lamego, visit one of Portugal’s best museums. You may also like to sam-ple one of the town’s famous specialties, Bola de Lamego, a delicious smoked ham roll.

Your next stop is Vega De Terron and Castelo Rodrigo in Spain. You will have the time to relax in Vega De Terron before joining an excursion to Castelo Rodrigo, a small town which sits on top of a hill overlooking both Spain and Portugal. This small town is home to several well-preserved ruins, a castle, and a magnificent stone statue of Santiago Matamoros.

Day 4, you will arrive in the city of Salamanca, one of Spain’s most beautiful cities with sunlit sandstone buildings along the magnificent square, and ancient university. A coach will then bring you back to Portugal to Barca d’Alva, the last Portuguese village along the Douro.

Before arriving in Pinhao, you can enjoy a fascinating history lecture on the town. On arrival vis-it a local Quinta, where you can admire the breathtaking views over the Douro Valley. You can also enjoy a tasting of the Portuguese favourite, port wine.

On the 6th day of your river cruise, you will Explore the magnificent Gardens and Palace of Ma-teus. You can visit the Count of Vila Real’s Museum and discover the connection between this beautiful 18th-century palace and Mateus Rose wine. Later, explore the vibrant town of Entre-Os-Rios.

Your cruise will then return to the enchanting city of sal which will conclude your trip. You will have the opportunity to visit the nearby town of Porto with a guided tour. You can learn about some of the city’s most famous attractions and enjoy a tasting at a local port winery.

On day 8 you will disembark and transfer to Porto airport for your flight home.
