Cancun, Mexico

This was our second trip to Mexico. After much research we settled on The Royal Suites Yutucan as our base for this trip. After a comfortable flight with Delta via Atlanta we arrived at the resort to be greeted by our own butler and we were given a lovely spacious room with a Jacuzzi on the balcony!

This hotel is part of a five hotel mega complex, we stayed in the exclusive adults only area but had access to all of the facilities of the other hotels including 14 restaurants, 13 bars; 5 of which were swim up bar, and 10 swimming pools.

As the complex was massive there was always something new to see and do from the pink flamingos and resident crocodile to the organised activities during the day and the night time entertainment. Plenty of transport including a train and carts brought you anywhere you wanted to go to on the resort. We did a Segway tour of the resort the day after we arrived. Our guide was very funny and entertaining and we thoroughly enjoyed it, it was a great way to see the complex and a lot of fun.

This resort is perfect for honeymooners with romantic walks through the jungle and lots of space on the beautiful private beach as well as the adult’s only pool.

Singles are well catered for with plenty of bars and an onsite nightclub as well as families with a kids club and huge pools to keep the little ones entertained.

Some of the highlights for me were the beautiful spa with reasonably priced treatments and whose facilities such as saunas and steam rooms were included in the cost of the stay. The freshwater pool, with fish swimming in it, was a unique concept and the service we received all over the resort was excellent.

We took a taxi into the centre of Cancun and enjoyed some shopping and lunch. It is quite a crazy spot and we were glad to get back to our gorgeous relaxing hotel! We also took a day trip to Xcaret, an ecological park where you can swim and snorkel with a sting rays, sharks and dolphins in a unique setting of caves and rivers and a beautiful beach front setting. Highly recommended!

There are lots of other trips you can do including visiting Mayan ruins, scuba diving, water parks and zip lining, fishing trips and golf.

With a climate where the temperature rarely falls below 30 degrees, a huge selection of accommodation, great service, good value and a host of attractions, Mexico really has something for everyone.
