Bratislava

Everyone has one of those friends who has been everywhere, well, I do at least! She has exhausted most continents let alone countries at this stage so it was going to be a difficult task to find somewhere she hadn’t been before. Bratislava it was!

With regular direct flights from Dublin, a large selection of hotels and excellent value for money (who doesn’t like a glass of wine for €1.50?!) it’s a great city break option.

After a short flight we checked into our hotel, Danubia Gate. It was very centrally located, rooms were lovely and modern, breakfast was excellent and staff were friendly – they even gave us a voucher for a free drink on check in.

We visited in December and picked a great time of the year with the Christmas Markets in full swing. The atmosphere was electric and the markets were definitely one of the main highlights of the trip.

We visited some beautiful churches, saw Bratislava Castle which had great views of the city and took a day trip to Vienna. We spent the evenings in classy wine bars and trendy restaurants. Bratislava should definitely be a contender for your next city break.
