What a wonderful Birthday present to receive, a ski holiday with my Husband with one stipulation, that if I booked then my Dad would join us! So on a cold February morning we flew from Dublin to Turin. On arrival we were shown our bus and off we set. The transfer to Bardonecchia took one and a half hours and the views were beautiful.

We had decided this year to take a self catering option for a change as the apartments were very well equipped, we were not disappointed. The Campo Smith Apartments were fantastic, situated right at the bottom of the slope, no ski bus needed just grab your skis from the heated lockers in the garage under the apartments and walk 1 minute to the chair lift. The apartments are two storeys; just inside the door was a heated hanging storage area for your ski boots/snow boots and ski clothing. Down 6 steps and you were into the kitchenette with a pull out sofa bed, TV and a balcony overlooking the mountain. Down another 6 steps was a double room with bathroom and this room overlooks the complete opposite side of the complex. The Campo Smith complex is a perfect base to explore all the ski runs and the ski school is situated directly next to the Apartments. There was a great buzz around on the first morning.

As we did not need ski school I had decided to ask how beginners and intermediate skiers were getting on. So that evening after a great day skiing I got chatting to people is the bar/pizzeria at the bottom of the run and adjacent to the apartments. The atmosphere was great and although people were tired and possibly a little sore the hot chocolate and Gluhwein went down very well.

Fellow skiers seemed to be very happy with their instructors and couldn’t wait to get back out again the following day.

We went exploring to the nearest town which was only a 15 minute walk or a local free bus stopped every half hour. We found some delicious bakeries and a well stocked supermarket as well as a chocolate shop to die for!

We had decided to have breakfast in the apartment and have dinner out. We stopped for lunch at the various different mountain restaurants most days as we didn’t really want to waste skiing time heading back to the apartment. The resort had a fantastic children’s ski club and special skiing areas just for children. There is a playground and an indoor swimming pool available as well as a massage area for adults.

Overall we had an amazing holiday fantastic energetic skiing and delicious Italian food. No complaints at all!
