Discover Scottsdale, Arizona

Famed for its spa resorts and golf courses, this desert city is the gateway to the McDowell Sonoran Preserve with its rock formations, cacti and star-gazing, and to Taliesin West, one-time home of iconic architect Frank Lloyd Wright.

Here’s what’s new in 2022.

Hotels

New in Scottsdale’s Entertainment District, Senna House – A Curio Collection by Hilton Hotel – has a rooftop pool with mountain and city views. Meanwhile, the fun-loving W Scottsdale has introduced day packages with fizz and pool passes and private hire of its spa, and the ADERO Scottsdale is offering a buyout package for larger groups to get together, including family getaways.

Mountain Shadows Resort Scottsdale has added the Library Teapot to its chic Library Coffee Cart complete with design books by TASCHEN, and Royal Palms Resort & Spa is now offering its Via Cappello private dining in-room, plus new mixology classes.

Future openings will include the Ritz-Carlton, Paradise Valley with Camelback Mountain views, sleek contemporary interiors and an expansive spa. Caesars Republic Scottsdale will open as the first Caesars Entertainment Corporation non- gaming hotel in the United States, with two signature restaurants by Chef Giada De Laurentiis and a rooftop pool, and Accor will open SLS Scottsdale, to include two floors of entertainment space.

Wellness

Canopy by Hilton Scottsdale Old Town is launching wellness guestrooms fitted with leading equipment from Peloton and Therabody, while Andaz Scottsdale Resort & Bungalows is celebrating Global Wellness Day with complimentary fitness classes and immersive wellbeing experiences. At the Hotel Valley Ho, it’s all about a good nights sleep thanks to its Bubbles & No Sleep Troubles package.

Over at the Hyatt Regency Scottsdale Resort & Spa, there are monthly full moon meditation classes in the new Desert Garden, while Boulders Resort & Spa Scottsdale enjoys cooler summer temperatures than the rest of the valley, meaning guests can enjoy early-morning golf-course strolls, sunset-viewing from private patios and moonlight bike tours and stargazing.

Things to Do

Until 19th June, Desert Botanical Garden and Taliesin West, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is hosting ‘Chihuly in the Desert – with two large-scale works by American glass sculptor Dale Chihuly, set in two locations and drawing on the light and colour of the surrounding desert.

At Butterfly Wonderland, you can see handmade, clay floral sculptures displayed among thousands of butterflies as part of ‘Art in Bloom’. There’s also The Musical Instrument Museum with its Summer Concert Series until 7th September, and Scottsdale Center, which will bring its 2021–22 season to a close with an eclectic schedule of music, theatre, dance, film, comedy and even a puppetry workshop.

Arizona also has a luxury retail destination, Scottsdale Fashion Square, with many new high-end retailers, including Dior, plus more than 200 shops and restaurants.

Drinking and Dining

New to the local dining scene is etta by two-time Michelin-starred chef Danny Grant at the Scottsdale Quarter shopping, dining and entertainment centre. And Citizen Public House has introduced a new Zero-Proof cocktail menu that skips the alcohol but not the fun or flavour. There’ll also be new Cold Beers & Cheeseburgers at Bourbon & Bones venues inside the Arizona Diamondbacks stadium.

Cala at the new Senna House hotel (see above) brings to the table farm-fresh coastal cuisine inspired by the Mediterranean flavours of Greece, Spain, Italy and Morocco, and there’s a new Modern American restaurant, Course, by former Food Network ‘Chopped’ champion Cory Oppold.
