Why fall is the perfect time to visit Vancouver

06 August 2019

Undoubtedly one of Canada’s finest cities, Vancouver will delight all types of traveller, whatever kind of holiday they're looking for. A coastal gem that effortlessly combines the excitement and energy of a cosmopolitan city with the invigorating appeal of the great outdoors, western Canada's biggest city has all the right ingredients for an exciting and unique getaway.

Home to eclectic neighbourhoods, an incredible foodie scene, a plethora of world-class attractions and exciting outdoor activities, Vancouver offers an unforgettable mix of urban chic and natural beauty.

Whilst it’s an amazing place to visit at any time of the year, the fall months are a particularly beautiful time to get to know Vancouver. The city is even prettier, temperatures are mild and the rich fall foliage is bursting into incredible shades of crimson and gold.

Here are some of our favourite must-do activities that you’ll want to experience during your autumnal escape.

"To sum Vancouver up, think glamorous city chic meets the outdoor adventure enthusiast and you might have an idea of how active, yet uber-cool, the city really is. "

Take a stroll in the park

Nestled on the edge of downtown Vancouver, world-renowned Stanley Park is a fantastic space with over 1,000 glorious acres to wander through. Stroll amongst the colourful cedar trees and admire the lustrous fall foliage as it begins to change colour to amazing shades of gold, orange and red.

"Vancouver is great if you're travelling with younger members of the family, and they'll love what Stanley Park has to offer with the Pitch & Putt golf course and Variety Kids Water park - the perfect destination for those who love to splash around."

Cycle along the Seawall

Some other things that you definitely won’t want to miss during your time in spectacular Stanley Park are the incredible collection of totem poles and the chance to breathe in the crisp autumn air and admire the sweeping views as you cycle along the iconic Seawall. Running along Vancouver’s waterfront, the Seawall meanders from the Convention Centre at Coal Harbour and around Stanley Park itself, past Granville Island and all the way round to Kitsilano Beach Park. The stunning views that will greet you promise to make the exertion worthwhile.

Enjoy a walk through the gardens

Wrap up in your cosiest scarf and take the Laburnum Walk through VanDusen Botanical Garden, an urban oasis which features an eclectic mix of plant life that turns to crisp shades of yellow in autumn.

Another picture-perfect place to enjoy the fall foliage and the crisp air is Queen Elizabeth Park, a gorgeous 130-acre green space that is home to stunning gardens featuring both deciduous and evergreen trees. As the colours start changing, it’s a particularly spectacular sight to behold.

Take a fantastic foodie tour

With a lively restaurant scene, a wealth of artisan food markets and over 100 food trucks serving delicious morsels, foodies are going to be in their element in Vancouver. Book a food and drink tour and you’ll have the chance to sample some of the delights of each neighbourhood, including some sumptuous seasonal specialities.

Explore Granville Island

Just a short ferry ride across False Creek from Vancouver, you’ll find the enchanting, arty community of Granville Island. Home to a bustling food market that’s brimming with local produce, artisan boutiques and craft studios, this incredible island beautifully blends old-world charm with fascinating culture and mouth-watering gourmet treats.
