21 February 2019

Anyone who loves fashion should try to experience a shopping holiday at least once, so we’ve compiled our top destinations to head to when you’re in need of some high-end retail therapy, from the fashion districts of Milan to the malls of Dubai.

London is more than well-equipped when it comes to luxury shopping, the streets are lined with designer boutiques that offer exclusive personal shopping experiences as well as plenty of high-end department stores including Harvey Nichols, Liberty London and of course, the iconic Harrods. This huge store located right in the centre of Knightsbridge is a labyrinth of designer concessions and even has a luxurious food hall offering opulent treats, from luxury chocolates to cheese and everything in between to try.

‘Somewhere we wanted to go and had never been was Harrods, so I thought why not… it’s an experience, isn’t it? By the time we left we each a had a carrier bag and aching feet.’

Los Angeles

With three blocks of luxury, fashion and lifestyle shopping and more than 100 world-renowned stores and hotels, Rodeo Drive in Los Angeles is the world’s swankiest places to shop. Head to Two Rodeo Drive for ultra-luxe designer stores including Versace, Jimmy Choo, Lanvin and Tiffany & Co, and once you’ve worked up an appetite, dine in style outdoors at 208 Rodeo Restaurant.

New York

The number one choice for those looking for a shopping holiday with a huge variety of shops, boutiques and department stores - New York has it all. From Bloomingdale to Saks Fifth Avenue and Macy’s plus the one-of-a-kind shops in SoHo and the knock-off stalls along Canal Street, you’ll have no choice but to shop until you drop.

If you’re looking for some designer bargains a trip to the discount department store of Century 21 is a must, or if you have the time make sure you visit the ever-popular Woodbury Common Premium Outlet, less than one hour’s bus drive from Manhattan, it’s home to around 220 designer and brand-name outlet stores.

‘We hit 5th Avenue, window gazing and purchasing - how could we resist? There’s every designer you can think of - Lacroix, Tiffany, Prada - to our amused amazement we had to queue to get in the Abercrombie & Fitch store - Carrie Bradshaw would have been proud of us!’

Unquestionably the fashion capital of the world, Milan is famous for its upscale shopping with labels including Gucci, Prada, Louis Vuitton and Versace. Head to the fashion district, Quadrilatero della Moda, where you’ll find the Via Montenapoleone, a covered street lined with designer stores. If you have the time, visit the factory outlet stores on the outskirts of town, found around an hour’s drive from Milan where a handful of shops offer discounts of up to 40% off Italian luxury brands.

Dubai is home to one of the biggest malls in the world, the Dubai Mall and offers every kind of shop you can imagine right at your fingertips. As well as having more than 1200 stores the Dubai Mall also houses the world’s largest indoor Gold Souk with over 220 jewellers, an Olympic-sized ice-rink and an indoor theme park. There’s even a hotel so when your bags get too heavy, you can keep popping back to your room to off-load your goods.

‘As we were at the Dubai Mall, we stayed for the evening wandering around the shops. There was a mix of designer and high street stores as well as some local shops and an aquarium!’
