An Ocean of Beaches Around Every Corner

Gran Canaria

There is no shortage of exceptional beaches in Gran Canaria, between its volcanic peaks and golden coastal landscapes, few are the destinations that can boast such vast natural beauty and authentic charm.

Close to the heart of Maspalomas town, Playa de Maspalomas is one of the island’s most desirable beaches, thanks to its picture-perfect sand dunes that make up the desert landscape. Here, you’ll find sun loungers, water sports and a long promenade ideal for taking in the beach in all its glory. In Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, another popular beach is Las Canteras (known as the jewel of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria), where you can enjoy long barefoot walks along miles of golden sandy beach. At sunset, its beachfront terraces fill up and the promenade’s cafés, bars and restaurants are lively into the night.

While Gran Canaria’s popular beaches and surf spots usually grab the spotlight, much of its charm lies in the small whitewashed towns and terracotta tiled rooftops, which offer the most rewarding views of the surrounding mountains and beautiful countryside.

Grand Hotel Residencia, Maspalomas

Living up to its name, the luxury five-star hotel has accommodated A-list celebrity guests including rock stars and TV personalities, such as Bruce Springsteen and Mary Berry. Despite its secluded location from the rest of the resort, the hotel is only a short walk from the beach.

Set on ancient palm groves, all 94 rooms and suites are spread over two-storey white-washed villas. The junior suites are located on the ground or first floor; opt for an upper-floor suite for vistas of the dunes below and mountainous terrain above. In the master suites, you can relax in a private atmosphere whilst enjoying panoramic views of the pool area and manicured gardens from your private balcony or terrace.

The main highlight is the recently refurbished spa, home to a 30-degree saltwater pool, salt grotto, ice fountain and unique treatments like volcanic stone massages and diamond facials.

Veintiuno, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria

Veintiuno is in the heart of one of the most authentic and historical districts of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. While staying at the hotel make sure you follow in the footsteps of Christopher Columbus and explore Santa Ana and Balconies Street.

All 11 stylish bedrooms have been individually decorated and are further divided into four categories: Standard, Superior, Deluxe, and Premium. Take your pick of a king-sized bed or two singles, or upgrade for extra space in the upper two categories, including a bathtub in Premium.

Head to the rooftop for close-up views of Santa Ana’s cathedral and a refreshing skyline; admire the views from a shady corner surrounded by lush vegetation or observe the neighbouring rooftops from the plunge pool. Enjoy a delicious breakfast or take in the beauty of the sunset while savouring a signature cocktail.

Tucked on the second floor, you’ll find some quiet areas where you can enjoy a relaxing read while sipping a refreshing drink.

Lopesan Villa del Conde Resort & Thalasso, Meloneras

Lopesan is just a few minutes’ walk from Meloneras’s sandy beach and 10 minutes’ walk to Meloneras’s promenade, which is lined with shops and restaurants. Its design reflects the style of a traditional Canarian village, highlighted by the impressive reception which is a replica of one of Gran Canaria’s oldest churches.

The hotel has no less than five restaurants and five bars to choose from, including an elegant à la carte option at Ovo, serving an excellent selection of grilled meats – the Txogitxu or the Rubia Gallega beef tenderloin are highly recommended. Here you need to book in advance. At the main restaurant, the Square, you can enjoy a buffet breakfast every morning with hot and cold specialities; at night, you can choose both meat and fish served to your liking from the show kitchen.

Located above the pool area, the rooftop bar offers a selection of signature drinks with a wonderful terrace overlooking the sea. If, after dinner, you feel like having a drink in a more intimate and relaxed atmosphere, head to The Zythum Pub located next to the square.

There are five swimming pools, one saltwater, another a children’s pool. Thanks to its privileged location by the sea, just below Meloneras promenade, the Corallium Thalasso enjoys sensational views of the ocean. For an extra-special experience, it’s worth treating yourself to a Sapphire Experience (a body and face ritual including exfoliation, a body mask with sapphire glitter, and a massage with semi-precious stones) at the spa.
