8 exciting destinations to visit in September

02 September 2019

As summer starts drawing to a close, many of us are ready for one final escape before winter sets in. And we think September is a perfect month to get out and explore!

One of the great things about travelling in September? You miss the busy beaches that most sun-drenched destinations get during July and August. You still have access to all of the amazing views, great food and fantastic hospitality without the prices and tourists the school holidays can bring!

Can’t decide where to go? Here are some of our favourite places to head to in September.

Málaga, Spain

Malaga, Spain

Known for its perfect combination of traditional Spanish customs and modern sophistication, Málaga is a charming city for a September getaway. Home to Spain’s Pompidou Centre, it is an art-lovers dream and also delivers beautiful beachside views and historic architecture.

Paris, France

Eiffel Tower, Paris

Paris goes into hibernation during August as most of the locals take the opportunity to leave the city and head to the south of France. September sees Paris bounce back to life as restaurants re-open, people return to work and the vibrant, cosmopolitan city that we love comes back into full swing.

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

The world is buzzing about Rio and this fantastic city is a spectacular September holiday spot. You can soak up the party atmosphere (something that never disappears in this city!) and visit the fantastic facilities and stadiums built for summer’s sporting events. Rio is also a perfect destination for anyone still seeking some sunshine and warmth – the September average is a lovely 27 degrees Celsius!

Budapest, Hungary

Budapest, Hungary

September is one of the driest months in this blossoming capital city so it is the perfect time to explore the delights Budapest has to offer. The river Danube cuts the city into two halves – Buda and Pest – with the 19th century chain bridge connecting the two. You can also explore the seven islands located along the river.

Munich, Germany

Munich, Germany

Beer fanatics get excited – Oktoberfest is back again for another year of fun! Munich is well-known for its Oktoberfest celebrations, with everyone dressing up in their lederhosen and enjoying German beers with sauerkraut and Weisswurst (German sausage).

Maine, New England, USA

Portland Head Lighthouse, Maine, New England

This expansive area of north eastern America is a beautiful place to visit as ‘Fall’ starts to set in and the leaves turn to glorious shades of red, golds and burnt orange. In September the temperatures are still perfect for exploring the bays, eating fresh lobster, and exploring the national parks.

Brisbane, Australia

Brisbane, Queensland, Australia

It may be winter in Australia but tropical Brisbane is always ready to bring some beautiful, warm weather! Brisbane is a welcoming and friendly city and it’s a perfect place to start your exploration of Australia’s east coast. From here you can easily reach the Gold Coast and the Great Barrier Reef, stopping along the way for a photograph with a kangaroo or two!

Sri Lanka

Tea plantation in Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka

With the monsoon rains having cooled the oppressive heat of the island, September is a great time to visit Sri Lanka. Discover more spices than you have ever dreamed of by sampling the local food and drink. Touring the cities and villages you will learn about the customs of this friendly and beautiful country and, cricket lovers, you’re bound to catch a local match during your stay!
