My husband decided on Madrid for a quick weekend away and I had no objections so I got it all booked before he could change his mind! After landing in Madrid airport we got the train to the city centre. Luckily our stop was right across from our hotel, the Mercure Santa Domingo.
Even though we were too early for check in there was a room available, which was great. I had booked a superior room which is a little more spacious than a standard. It was modern, clean and had everything we needed. We had breakfast included and there was a great selection on offer. The location was great, just set back from the Gran Via.
There is a roof top pool but it was closed due to the time of the year. The view from the roof was beautiful. The bar in the hotel was in the basement and is well worth the trip down, it is a lovely room with little alcoves.
We decided to see the sights on the hop on – hop off bus. It was great as the sun was shining while we sat up stairs and admired the sights. Half way around (loop 1) we decided to get off at the Plaza Mayor and enjoy a lovely lunch and a couple of glasses of wine in the afternoon sun. What a way to spend the afternoon. In the evening there were many restaurants to choose from, we opted for one with outside seating.
The next day we were back on the bus and did loop 2. We got off at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium and did the tour around it. That evening we decided on loud music and cocktails in the Hard Rock Café.
Sunday morning was spent looking around the fabulous selection of shops!! Before we headed home.
It was a non-stop weekend, but very relaxing at the same time.
