Spoil Yourself in Mexico

Six colleagues and I received a fantastic opportunity to travel to Mexico visiting the beautiful resort of Cancun as well as the quieter resorts of Playa del Carmen, Puerto Morelos and Tulum. It was great to be able to visit eleven properties that I sell regularly and experience first-hand their hospitality, standard of accommodation and food (I love my food) and to sample some of what Mexico has to offer.

Our first night was in the 5* Secrets Capri Resort. There is a classic Mediterranean feel to this hotel with stunning ocean views. All rooms are of the Preferred Club standard so include a host of extra amenities. It’s only five minutes from the vibrant Playa Del Carmen.

Over the following three days we visited all of the AM resorts and were treated like royalty, I'm surprised I didn't need an extra seat on the plane coming home!

All of the Secret Resorts Ultimate Luxury product is adult only. Secrets Silversands was a property I loved. I was so pleasantly surprised by this resort, contemporary in style but with the biggest rooms you could imagine. It has eight restaurants, eight pools and eight bars, all so different in style; it had a fun/lively atmosphere around the pool area. Dreams Tulum is a super property for families with an excellent Explorers Club for kids of all ages, an intimate colonial style hacienda resort reminiscent of a quaint village.

'Wow' best describes the 5* luxurious Secrets Maroma Beach and Spa Hotel. It really is a first class property located on the best beach in this area. It’s a perfect property for honeymooners and couples wanting personal service and facilities that are simply stunning. I loved the atmosphere from the moment I walked in the door - it’s a winner all the way.

Zoetry Paraiso De La Bonita is a boutique resort; a smaller hotel with a more homely and unique feel with its eclectic collection of antiques. Each room type is an ocean front suite based on a different country.

We visited Now Jade Hotel which was a modern hotel and Now Sapphire, which is more traditional with a lovely Mexican feel. Personally I preferred the Now Sapphire to the Now Jade, I feel it had a better ambience, more of a 4* standard than 5*.

Dreams Riveria Cancun was one of the properties that surprised me the most, I loved it and I would love to return with my family, it is suitable for couples and families and is located on a beautiful beach in Puerto Morolos. The rooms were beautiful, a really excellent property. The lobby area is stunning and the buzz in this hotel is great with live music, a nightclub and it even had a big screen TV over the pool at night so guest could watch the super bowl while lying on a beanbags or sun chairs.

Finally the Secrets the Vine. Newly opened and located in the hotel zone in Cancun, it is a fabulous option for those who want to be located close to shopping and nightlife. The hotel is very modern and chic with an amazing location on a stunning white sandy beach. I would recommend the Preferred Club in the property more so than the other Secrets resorts, there is a Preferred Club roof top pool, which is simply amazing, so quiet and peaceful up there with breath- taking views.

If you can manage to remove yourself for a day from the amazing resorts there is lots to do. You can visit the ancient Mayan ruins at Tulum or spend the day at Xcaret eco-archaeological site. Here you can swim in one of the natural underground rivers. I didn't try this one but the girls seemed to love it. A full day out can be had here with its various water parks and the opportunity to swim with dolphins. Personally I think a night out in Coco Bongos is a must, I won’t say too much as I wouldn't like to spoil the surprise. It was such a fun night, it has a real Las Vegas feel to it. Top tip for the ladies...wear flats!

Cancun and the surrounding areas have so much to offer, whether it’s for your honeymoon, family holiday or fun getaway you won’t be disappointed, I was blown away.
