Family holiday in Alcudia

Last May we decided to book a last minute holiday to Alcudia. We had been there two years previous and really enjoyed it. This year ten of us went - three families, so to avoid any hassle or confusion I prebooked a mini bus to collect us at the airport, this worked out fantastic.

We had three apartments in the Viva Sunrise aparthotel. These apartments are excellent, they're clean, spacious and both kids and adults are entertained. The entertainment for kids started early in the morning and continued until 10pm and my son is still talking about the Elvis night.

The soccer pitch there proved to be a real hit with the boys in our group and the little ladies loved the splash park and the play ground. All of these are located side by side which made life very easy for us and that's what you need on holidays. On our first night we relaxed and enjoyed dinner and a bottle of vino at La Traviata steak house.

Up early next morning and off to beach, the beach in Alcudia is amazing with its white sand and turquoise waters it stretches over 12km around the bay and whether you want to have a lazy day under an umbrella or enjoy some water sports you won't be disappointed there.

From the entrance to the beach we took a horse and carriage to the Port area, It was more a novelty for the kids they really enjoyed it. The port area comes alive at night with it night clubs and karaoke bars but compared to other resorts in the south of the island is it still much quieter.

There is a market in the old town on Sunday and Tuesday mornings selling mostly flowers, hand crafted items and fruit and veg. The market itself was small and nothing special but the old town is worth a visit for its atmospheric medieval streets, full of cafes, restaurants and souvenir shops.

Alcudia 's restaurants are really and truly family friendly, most of them have either slides, bouncing castles or playgrounds in them and those of you who have kids know that once they are entertained and happy you will be able to relax and unwind. If you fancy traditional fish and chips I have to recommend "Trade Winds" , nothing fancy but lovely food.

This was my second family holiday in Alcudia and it won't be my last, I cannot recommend it highly enough for families.

Top marks to Alcudia from the Lane family
