Portugal

My girlfriends and I take a short break every year in Ireland, usually to a Spa. This year we decided to travel to Portugal as we felt we could do with some sunshine!

We decided on Vilamoura as our husbands' had golfed there with groups and could not recommend it highly enough.

We flew out on a Thursday morning and an amazing two hours and thirty minutes later we were at our destination. We had organised a private transfer that was waiting for us the airport and thirty five minutes later we were checking into our hotel the Dom Pedro Marina! This is a four star hotel on the Marina and it is suitable for families and groups. Facilities included a family size Jacuzzi, outdoor pool and a separate children’s pool, a restaurant and piano bar. Our room was very large with two bedrooms and two bathrooms and I found the room to be basic but comfortable. The hotel was very well situated just a few minutes’ walk to a lovely sandy beach and also a few minutes’ walk to the beautiful Marina.

The Marina has some fantastic restaurants at reasonable prices. We spent great evenings eating our meals and looking out at the fantastic yachts. The nightlife was great with a wide choice of bars which all seemed to have great bands playing each night.

We returned on the Sunday morning flight Faro to Cork. Again one of my friends could not believe we were having coffee in my kitchen a short three hours later.

We are now making our plans to return with our husbands who want to play golf in the three 18-hole golf courses, while we soak up the magnificent sunshine. I would recommend Vilamoura as a short break destination.
