Wildlife, beaches, friendly people, fascinating cultures, Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Mt Kilimanjaro, Zanzibar Archipelago – Tanzania has all these and more wrapped up in one adventurous, welcoming package. Few countries can match its amazing diversity. More than almost any other destination, Tanzania is the land of safaris. The Indian Ocean coastline is magical, with tranquil islands and sleepy coastal villages steeped in centuries of Swahili culture.
To begin your trip, you will be met by your guide and transferred by road to Little Okavango camp, so-called because of its proximity to narrow water channels full of tall Papyrus grasses which feed down to the expanse of Lake Victoria.
Head out on a gentle canoe ride on the waterways around Victoria Island, and out onto the Lake itself. This is a lovely gentle introduction to Tanzania. In the evening, relax by the campfire before dinner beneath the stars.
You will experience a full day’s game drive in Serengeti National Park focusing on the area around the Grumeti River, where year-round game viewing is excellent. You can expect to see a great diversity of large mammals in significant numbers. Lions, elephants, buffalo, zebra, giraffe are common, and leopards and cheetah are regularly sighted. In June hundreds of thousands of migrating wildebeest add spectacularly to the already fabulous wildlife experience! Return to the camp in the late afternoon, relax and enjoy the evening birdsong before dinner.
Enjoy your trip across Speke Bay by traditional fishing boat where after passing Nyatwari village, the coastline becomes wild, crocodiles and hippos are likely to be seen as the boat approaches the Grumeti delta. Here you explore the fringes of the delta, with its spectacular birdlife before returning for lunch on Victoria Island. Meet local boat builders from the Sukuma tribe and watch life on the lakeside with the men bringing in their catch. Experience an overnight stay at Little Okavango camp before another full day game drive in Serengeti National Park.
Later, transfer to the north part of the island to Nungwi where The Zanzibari boutique hotel is located. The hotel is close to the Mnemba atoll, famous for its diving. Settle into the hotel this afternoon for the last few days of your trip where you have the chance to relax or book more excursions such as historical stone town tours, Spice farm tours, diving, snorkelling, sunset cruises, village visits. The hotel has a wonderful reputation for international cuisine, infused with Zanzibari twists. It also has a SPA offering massages, body treatments, manicures and pedicures to finish off your holiday in luxury. This memorable holiday is one that is most certainly on a lot of travel wish lists!
