• Fly to Tokyo where you will join your new travel companions for a welcome dinner. The next morning discover Senso-ji, the city’s oldest temple before exploring the buzzing Shibuya area. Afterwards, enjoy some peaceful bliss at Yoyogi Park and Meiji Shrine before visiting the Shibuya Sky for a birds-eye view of Tokyo.

• On Day 3, explore the world-famous Tsukiji Outer Fish Market, which remains a lively centre for visitors and locals alike that boasts around 400 shops to enjoy before attending a sushi making class to learn about the history of this Japanese cuisine.

• Board a train to the mountainous hot springs of Hakone. In the afternoon, take a cable car up the mountains to Owakudani, followed by a boat trip across the serene Ashinoko Lake. Enjoy spectacular views, and on a clear day, you will catch a glimpse of Mt Fuji.

• On Day 5, take a bullet train to Takayama. Head out on a walking tour and explore the beautiful traditional architecture as you pass through the old part of town before exploring the Takayama Showa-kan Museum. The next day visit Shirakawgo, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, famous for its gassho-zukuri (thatched roofs house).

• Take a train to Hiroshima and head out for an orientation walk to familiarise yourself with the city. The next morning visit the Peace Park and Museum before taking a ferry to the sacred island of Miyajima to see the famous floating Torii Gate. Enjoy time to explore the island and its many shrines and temples.

• Spend 4 days in Kyoto soaking in the reigning cultural capital of Japan. Visit the extravagantly decorated Kinkakuji Temple also known as the Golden Pavilion. Explore the Daitokuji Temple and take part in a Zen Buddhism meditation session.

• Head to Fushimi Inari Taisha, one of the most unusual and iconic Shinto shrines in Japan. From the top, a beautiful view of the city of Kyoto and the hills surrounding it can be enjoyed. In the evening, celebrate the end of your adventure in Japan over dinner enjoying the authentic flavours of Kyoto.

• Spend your final night in the colourful city of Osaka before returning home.
