Namibia is a country that offers it’s visitors endless opportunities. Whether you want to embark on a wildlife adventure, relax and unwind on a beach along the Atlantic Ocean or explore a “Dune Sea” you can do all this and more in Namibia.
Spend 3 days in Etosha National Park. Etosha National Park is unique in Africa and there is abundant of wildlife (both common and rare) there. You’ll see some of the largest Elephants in Africa, the endangered black rhino, lions that are camouflaged in the grasslands and giraffes that rise high above the vegetation. Etosha is a must for your travel list for any animal lover.
Then stop is the untamed and rugged Damaraland, one of Namibia’s most scenic attractions. Highlight here include Namibia’s highest mountain, the Brandberg or ‘Burnt Mountain’ most famous for the rock painting of the White Lady’; Twyfelfontein with thousands of bushman rock paintings and of course Rhino and Desert Elephant tracking, truly magnificent and majestic creatures who adapted to survive in the harsh desert conditions.
Situated between the Atlantic Ocean and Namib Dunes you will find Swakopmund, a jewel of a town filled with historic buildings and landmark. Here you can dine at some of the finest restaurants overlooking the Atlantic, and relax in your luxury accommodation, only a stone throws away from the beach.
From Swakopmund travel to Sossusvlei, also referred to as the “Dune Sea” because of it’s subtle shifting sand dunes sculpted by the wind. Located in the heart of the Namib Naukluft Park, Sossusvlei facets an air of isolation and tranquility where one can find perspective and serenity amongst the orange dunes and ‘cracked white floor’ of the vlei (dried up saltpan). Upon arrival in Sossusvlei enjoy the rest of the day relaxing, where you will experience a true African accommodation experience.
The following day rise early to catch the beautiful sunrise in Sossusvlei, and to avoid the heat. On your morning guided excursion into Sossusvlei and Deadvlei you will have option of climbing the world’s highest sand dune, or simply stroll around the breathtaking Deadvlei area. To experience the full magnitude of this sand sea, climb the highest dune, Big Daddy at 325 meters. On reaching the top you will be rewarded with a panoramic view of the Dead Vlei with the 900-year-old Camelthorn trees. The contrasts of the shadows on the dunes, the clear blue sky and blackened dead trees against the orange dunes is a must see when visiting Namibia.
