Touring Tokyo

Japan has always been a fascination of mine and I was delighted to get the opportunity to visit Tokyo. We arrived on a comfortable Emirates flights after a short stop-over in Dubai. Feeling brave we took the train into the city, it took just over an hour and our hotel was well located and a short walk from the train station. Nothing prepares you for the sheer size and vastness of the city, with a population of over 37 million it is surprisingly calm and ordered with little traffic as public transport is very efficient.

We toured the Gardens of the Imperial Palace, visited The Tokyo Sky Tree – the world’s tallest tower with 360 degree vistas, spent a day in Disneyland and enjoyed the panoramic views of the city on a Tokyo bay cruise.

We enjoyed window shopping in the designer shops of Ginza, indulged in the freshest sushi on the waterfront in Odaiba and spent time in Ueno where the open air markets sold everything from fish to footware. One of my favourite dishes was Takoyaki which is octopus dumpling.

The highlight of the trip for me was the day trip we took to Mount Fuji, Hakone and Lake Kawaguchi, truly memories to last a lifetime.
