Munich Salzburg and Nuremberg

I travelled on a 5-nights break with my husband and two teenage daughters to two of Europe's better-known cities, Munich, and Salzburg. These cities were combined with the relatively unknown city of Nuremberg, which made for a magical trip. Munich is a beautiful city with the main square " Marienplatz " being the cultural centre. Marienplatz has a beautiful old city hall to the world-renowned Glockenspiel Mechanical Clock. The Glockenspiel Mechanical Clock sees its life size characters re-enact scenes from Munich's history twice daily. Marienplatz is vibrant from artists playing piano to sand sculptors and has wonderful shopping and restaurants serving the very best German Cuisine.

What I loved most about Munich is its transportation. It is so easy to get around and explore the cities major sites and outside the city. The transportation also connects to other major cities in Europe, which is simply amazing.

We travelled out of Munich by train to visit Dachau Concentration Camp which was a moving and poignant experience. I found that it was important for my girls to learn and experience the history. We were happy that we went as there is so much to see and do in Munich. It is a city we will definitely visit again.

We then took the train to Salzburg in Austria, and it was amazing. Having grown up watching the Sound of Music at Christmas and I was dying to see it. After some research we opted for a bike ride through Salzburg visiting scenes from the "Sound of Music" and it was an amazing way to the city. We cycled for 3.5 hours and visited the Mirabelle Palace, the town square, the Convent where Maria worked as a nun, the Von Trapp family home and the famous Gazebo where Captain Von Trapp proposed to Maria. The mountains were calling us from every aspect and the beautiful scenery makes Salzburg a must visit city - we will be back for sure.

Our final stop was the city of Nuremberg, a short train ride from Munich. While Nuremburg was a famous as the location for the end of World War II, there is so much more to it. It’s a shining example of a beautiful walled town with well-preserved historical landmarks. We stayed in the old town, inside the walls. Nuremberg is stunning and one of the most beautiful cities in Germany. I fell in love with the city and the overall ambiance was lovely. The Bridge is also a lovely place to eat, drink and to watch the world go by.

I asked my girls what they thought about the trip – they said, "it was one of the best trips we ever had". It was filled with experiences, adventure, new foods, shopping, and history.

I cannot recommend this trip enough for those with older kids who want to experience some of Europe's great Cities. If your family would like to plan a break like this - give me a call....it might be your best trip yet!
